recommending not hiring someone

Post by 5dayer »

Just curious if anyone has done this before or leave it to the hiring department to weed out the bad apples. If there are people out there who are not WJ material, is it in bad taste to let the hiring department know? Just wondering.

I think it would be in your own and the company's best interests for you to clearly outline your concerns. Giving your assessment of whether someone has the right stuff will neither be helpful, nor looked on favourably, especially if after interviewing the individual, HR happens to take a shining to them. If you can provide hard evidence to support your concerns, HR will probably listen closely.

They weigh the good with the bad recommends. A couple of bad letters will not have an effect if 14 others have said good things. In the past, they used to call the bad recommends and get more information as to why, not everyone can get along.

I put a bad recommend in once, but it was doing the people of WestJet a huge favor. It wasn't something I took lightly but completely required.

There are always those who are either A) going to be a nightmarish experience on a four day pairing, B) likely to wind up a statistic or on the national news, or C) unable to upgrade.

Would you be doing your co-workers or the company a huge favor by recommending them?

The guy that I said something about was just a cry baby and a constant whiner. I also knew that he had a reputation and I certainly was not alone in my thinking. He actually flies airplanes very well... so it came down to: "I really don't want to suffer through 4 day with this guy at WestJet too". There was another guy that I never hit it off with before, but I actually put a good word in for him because I knew I was a minority and he did fly... but again, it was just a personality clash with the two of us.

Hi,

Thanks for the question.

I suggest contacting me on my work email if you have any questions regarding sponsorship. We have relayed on more than one occasion several memos on the topic and I would be more than happy to answer any questions pertaining to our hiring in person.

Thanks again,

Dave.

I did not long ago, but they did hire him anyways. Y’know the type: Charming, extraverted, a hit with the ladies. Turns out, he’s getting closer and closer to the “exit interview”. I don’t think WJ needs racist, chauvinist pig…

Hey “buddy” if you read this: You’re a f$#@ moron. I think someone should tell your wife “K”.

I think all you pilots are Egotistical ASSHOLES for giving out bad reccomendations to someone.

No one should ever infringe on someones right to work and make a living. What you might find intolerant about someones behavior, could very well be your own shitty personality that needs some reflecting upon.

If everyone had the ability to give negative reviews on the applicants they see... than no one would ever get hired cause people can never completely get along with everyone they meet. Different personalities reflect how well or poor you get along with someone. This doesnt make them a bad pilot necessarily.

Not sure where the Karma deities would have one choose their path in such circumstances; fortunately I can not remember having to formally pass such judgement. Certainly a given number of ounces of the (at that time) appropiate liquid might expose my personal feelings toward an individual.

Sewering somebody's a significant gesture. I'd caution temperance in consideration of such an act, if for no other reason than youth being something we all experienced and perhaps life changes us all. And the Karma deities are sneaky.

Thats hilarious... someone PM's you my name.... I guess watching the woman's Olympic tramepline just wasent fun enough now was it.

One day I will walk into the West Jet interview room.... in my nice suit, newly groomed haircut... with all my interview rebutles down pat, all my documents in hand... and the man behind the oak desk will glance at me.... than look at his files... give me a hard look again... look back into his files.... than glance on over to the "Red Board" at the wall.... and after a moment of silence, he'll go... "uuuhhhh.... your name wouldn't be synthpro now would it?"....."oh i see...."..... "well your resume is quite impressive.... however, someone told me about some of your comments on... avcanada.com 6 years ago??? ring a bell?"....... ha ha ha ha whatever dude... you suck!

I sure as @#$! hope you guys dont have a Roledex for this sorta shit!!!

Anyways, what a load of crap considering no one knows who I am. If you think you know me... than I dare you to PM me my name. Nice to see people can give their opinions openly on this forum.

Adam, you came and pooped in our sandbox and then left. Only natural we were going to throw some poop back.

Besides, it was a slow Saturday. Until you just outed yourself (though I still think you're that creepy guy in spandex shorts who hangs out at the laundromat) I had no idea who you were. Punk'd.

Nice to see such passion though. Latin heritage maybe; do you talk with your hands a lot? And are you wearing spandex right now using an iPhone at the 'Cuddle-Munchkins Laundromat' on Queen East? If so, you got a booger in your left nostril. And a nice package.

When's that interview?
