WestJet Technical Exam
Hello,
I am curious if there is anyone out there who has interviewed with WestJet and has completed thier technical exam. I am trying to study but wondering where to start. I have read that it is based on the AIM. That narrows it down a little but that is still a 500 page document with many specifics. Any help would be
Any questions remembered? Any specific areas they focused?
Thanks!

Re: WestJet Technical Exam
Its open book so don't even worry about it.
One question was something about the fire coverage at an airport being '3' (or something along those lines)... what does that mean. Open the provided book, look up the relevant section in the index, turn to the correct page and there is the answer.
Oh! Just remembered another one. What does the black/white checker line between a ramp and a taxiway signify? Didn't know that one so looked it up in the provided book and voila! Apparently that is the limit to where ramp vehicles can drive.
All very straightforward.
But don't take my word for it! I didn't get hired

I didn't get hired either but here's what I remember. I wrote all the questions I could remember in the evening after the interview. Surprisingly I could remember most of them! Hope this helps you get an idea of what the exam is like. Good luck!!
Technical Exam: open book using the AIM. These Q’s are not word for word, just what I remember. You don’t have to know all of the answers, just know where to find them in the AIM.
1. Alt. = 28.91 is FL 190 available?
2. If air is warmer than ISA, is true altitude higher or lower?
3. How many minutes before approach do you need to call FSS?
4. When is type 4 de-icing fluid applied?
5. STD. weight of adult male in winter with carry-on.
6. Turbojet IFR fuel requirements.
7. Cold wx question. MDA for NDB 28 at YYC is 490’ agl. -20°. New MDA?
8. On a CAP, distance is in NM, Vis. is SM. T or F?
9. NCA starts at? FL230 and abv.
10. Speed limit within 10NM of airport and 3000’ agl. 200kts
11. Holding speeds and timing. 1 min. blo. 14000. 1½ min. abv. 14000.
12. 2 bar VASIS question. 2 red?
13. How long after donating blood are you unfit to fly?
14. What does ARCAL stand for?
15. METAR winds are given in magnetic. T or F.
16. ATC handling priority. Minimum fuel advisory.

Re: WestJet Technical Exam
Just wondering if anyone has an example of the "closed book" question they ask?
Thanks in advance..

Re: WestJet Technical Exam
Good thing I got hired cause I don't know 3/98 of that shit.
Re: WestJet Technical Exam
No Closed book questions. What they want to see is that you can find information in a manual in a timely fashion. Hope that helps

Re: WestJet Technical Exam
There is indeed a closed book question. However honest joe, I don't think anyone on here is going to tell you what it is, it would be pointless anyway as it changes all the time. Don't worry about it, if you are interviewing at WJ you would hope one would have a somewhat decent technical background by now, if not well....good luck.cjet wrote:No Closed book questions. Re: WestJet Technical Exam
I had this question on my technical exam (I'm not kidding):
Who is Clive Beddoe?
A) President of WJ
B) Chairman of WJ
C) Guy who works at Starbucks at WJ campus
D) Bus driver for WJ
I really wanted to pick C but common sense got the better of me.
The tech exam is easy, it's like an open book ATPL exam. I think I did it in 10 minutes, took another 5 to review my answers and spent the next 45 minutes doing a Powerpoint presentation for the prepared answer for my interview (not sure if they still do that).
Don't sweat it. For the interview part, be the guy the interviewers want to spend 4 days with.

Re: WestJet Technical Exam
Honest Joe, just curious are you interviewing soon? The reason I ask is, that it is my understanding that hiring has been done for the year. If not, thats great, best of luck to you.
Re: WestJet Technical Exam
Exactly - and more importantly, be yourself man! The people you are going to see in your interview are all great people and they are looking to hire people. If you can sell good knowledge, good head on your shoulders, and most importantly, willingness to learn even at this stage of the game? I think you got yourself a great person! Like DaveP said many years ago, you can teach practically anyone to fly a 737NG, so the 2 cents in my head is telling me that they are looking for something more than a cross pointer holder in the candidates they hire.Bede wrote: Don't sweat it. Good luck dude!
Re: WestJet Technical Exam
On my interview last year (November) it was all closed-book questions. 10 multiple choice, one "long" answer. Have they changed it back to open book?
