Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
Kinda crazy to think that I got paid more my first day driving a forklift than a guy sitting right seat on a Q400 at Encore after 2 years on the job... base salary of course, but still.
I guess I am PIC on the forklift so that's why I make the big bucks

Voyageur - 2 months on 2 months off
Regional 1 - 40 days on 30 off
CHC - no fixed wing. I believe it's subcontracted to R1.
Transcapital - 2 months on, 1 month off (yes, I know only -7's)
DAC - ??

There is also Air Nippon, Q400, regional Japan (and possibly out to Okinawa and PI, but not sure on that one), 6 weeks in 2 out, 20 days vacay per year, 6 free flights home per year. Very difficult to get in with, and I have been trying for a while. I think however that you will find that the $110,000 salary also includes your local apartment and living allowance, which by the way isn't cheap in Japan. Still, it's not a bad deal in my opinion. My $0.02Just for comparison.....Somewhere outside of Canada Salary.
Dash-8 captain
Six week rotation in country and six weeks home.
Approximately 50 hours flying during complete rotation (200 + a year)
Training provided and paid for, Accommodation provided and paid for.
Approx. $110,000 a year after tax

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
No sense in posting pay scales outside of Canada. If you want to live in Japan go for it. As for myself and most Canadian pilots, we're only interested in raising our families here in Canada. I spent a good portion of my early twenties living and working outside of Canada and it only solidified my belief that we are some of the luckiest people on the planet.
Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
With regards to flow-through at WestJet: IMO it no longer carries quite the same incentive that it once did since the formation of the new bases.
The position at Encore is essentially uncommutable and would require moving to YYC on your own dime. With any flow-through that occurs, all new positions at WestJet for the foreseeable future will be into the YYZ base and will require a move out there at the employee's own expense. The flow-through incentive is still there, only now it will cost almost a year's salary to make the move over to WJ.

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
So have they finally come up with a flow thru agreement to WJ from Encore?
Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
Not everyone wants to live out west. I'm sure there are plenty of new applicants considering wj with the fact that they can get based in the east and get to avoid yyc.
Also, encore has a posting for a csa in Quebec. Is encore already planning a 2nd base out east?? If so, again would make encore more appealing for the other half of Canada.

DH772,
All tier 3 bases (YQT, YQB, YQU, YXX, etc.) are Encore bases since they will eventually be served by WJE.

Of course! Realise the savings of a reduced wages long before there is an actual need to, brilliant!

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
A couple Encore questions:
1. How many planes have been delivered?
2. What is the delivery schedule like?
3. Are the bases the same? YYC, YVR and YYZ?
Any answers would be great.

So quit dilly dallying and apply there. What do you care what WJE pays?DHC7DVR wrote:There is also Air Nippon, Q400, regional Japan (and possibly out to Okinawa and PI, but not sure on that one), 6 weeks in 2 out, 20 days vacay per year, 6 free flights home per year. Why would anyone start a commodity business without having the lowest costs in the game?

So when are you and the old gang going to get back together and start WestJet 2 (a la Enerjet's OC) ? I'm guessing right after G.S. finishes turning WestJet into Air Canada (Canadi<n) ? Which won't be long at this rate.

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions
Hi Guys, any word on how many more direct entry Captains will be hired?
I'm really interested in contributing to this startup and was hoping for a call but no luck so far. I've got over 4000 hrs TT, currently flying as a F/O on a heavy turboprop at a 705 operation, lots of PIC time prior to this position, also have a few internal WJ references. What kind of average experience levels are currently being targeted?
