Delayed takeover of Suncor operations
According to knowledgeable sources inside Suncor flight ops, the takeover announcement will occur in September. The original announcement, scheduled for May 10th, was cancelled by Suncor (because of the YMM fires) and a vague press conference was held by WJ. Watch for another press conference announcement by WJ and town hall meeting at Suncor. Once these events are scheduled, it's all over!
The 2 year contract, signed in 2015, will continue in place. WJ will assume all Suncor flying with the exception of the executive plane. Looks like the bid to become a 705 operator will never take place.
The executive plane will be staffed by 3 pilots and 1 mechanic and relocated to another YYC FBO.

Re: Delayed takeover of Suncor operations
Is WestJet going to pick up any of the Suncor pilots & engineers put on the street by this development? Not too mention the likes at Air North, Sunwest, NCA...etc etc.... who will be negatively impacted by this?
Kind of a bummer, we all know WestJet has economies of scale and provides better rates. But feels s****ty none-the-less.

Re: Delayed takeover of Suncor operations
A sad day to see another amazing corp dept go down the drain. Was the best job I ever had.
Re: Delayed takeover of Suncor operations
Sorry to hear. Great bunch of people. Fond memories flying the Bag.

Very sad to hear of this. A lot of good guys and gals over there. Hopefully WestJet elves appear with some jobs for those affected.
