To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
I could pick almost any thread and find YOU.
The Mods are not doing their job, and must also step up their game or we all lose.
What should the mods do?, for a start - there are several posters, who offer nothing constructive, and go out of their way
to post negative, trash talking, uninformative, and most of all play no positive part in a thread. If you click on all their previous
posts, they have a history of trolling.
I suggest the mods start cracking down on these lame contributors to AvCanada Forums, or step down as a mod, and find someone
else who has the time, and commitment to better AvCanada.
Pick any thread, an example would be someone asks a simple question; viewtopic.php?f=54&t=65602
and it turns into a free for all against the poster. I suggest the mods get off their butts, and contact each negative responder, and give
each and every one of them fair warning that their negative crap will not be tolerated.
AvCanada could be an amazing tool for the Canadian Aviation Industry, and as a forum, has the greatest potential of serving the best interests
or our industry. A current thread on pprune; http://www.pprune.org/canada/423947-how ... icate.html
I had a recent post, where the miss-spelling of a word took on a life of its own, normally I could care less, then I misspelled it on purpose to prove a point,
and other idiots chimed in how I misspelled it again. Yet not a constructive comment on the topic at hand.
So my final message to all the trash talking, negative, non-constructive members of this aviation community;
My only wish was you were just a little bit smarter, than you are, so you could really, truly, appreciate how stupid you are.
Thanks for bringing AvCanada down a notch, thanks for scaring away many members, and for all the positive, and informative posts that were never posted
because of YOU.

Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
Funny, I was just composing a thread on this very topic.
Maybe I'm getting old and cranky, but stupid people piss me off. This also holds true for lame threads and responses. We’re all guilty of getting caught up in an argument or 3 and yeah, sometimes it’s fun. Most times it is truly counter productive.
But lately, it seems the caliber has slipped, and the cuts are running deep. Is it our membership is full of ret@rds and a$$holes? I truly don’t think so; I think it’s the anonymousness of the web.
How about it folks, how about a call to class up? If you wouldn’t post it with your real name attached to it, then maybe it’s not worth posting.

I could have agreed with your point right up until you said this,
I know it is difficult to intonate via text but, was this irony, an attempt at irony or did you just negate your own point?robbreid wrote: My only wish was you were just a little bit smarter, than you are, so you could really, truly, appreciate how stupid you are.

I'm going to knock this up a notch with my spice weasle. Bam!
Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
Actually, I disagree. In the last year things have been MUCH calmer on avcanada. Previously there were a few long-time posters who tended to disrupt almost every discussion, but the mods did their job and gave them warnings and there haven't been any problems since. The thread you give as an example above is a pretty minor compared to the shenanigans that used to go on here. The only thing I would delete would be the very last post on that thread, but seeing as everyone had the sense not to respond to that troll it's not really a big deal.
Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
Anyone else notice that there seems to be less people posting in recent months?

Great minds think alike, ...
Fools seldom differ.
I was just thinking earlier this evening, how the bitchiness is getting a bit tiresome, I'm just not enjoying the forum as much.
I had thought about adding a comment, a viewpoint, a suggestion, not a particularly noxious one by any means, but the thread had become so contentious that I figured any comment was just gonna stir up a lot of crap instead of constructive discussion. Which is a shame - because I think there could be a lot of constructive discussion in on that very topic, if people would quit getting rabid over perceived slights - ya know - set the poster straight if they've offended you - explain the how and why of your offense but do it civilly and move on - to the topic of the thread.
I don't necessarily expect that the mods are responsible to make grown men and women behave themselves - after all we are all (or at least MOST of us) are supposedly adults here.

Basically if you love aviation, truly enjoy AvCanada - and access to a free Aviation forum - yet your posting negative nit-picking posts,
it just isn't smart!!!
Plus I'm peeved - even if it is 'calmer' - many, many members have given up posting - to me - we all lose.
How hard can this be to clean this up?? No the mods aren't the problem, but they may play a part in spreading the word to people who
continue to only argue, and chastise without providing anything, or little positive input to AvCanada.

Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
Something's not right.
I put up a thread yesterday about the head of an airline publicly claiming that first officers were a waste of air and that airliners only needed a single pilot and that the FA's could step in if that bloke had a heart attack or was otherwise disabled.
The thread was moved. To Aviation Humor, even though there wasn't the slightest thing funny about it. It was moved from this section, which purports to be about all things aviation related. Absolutely not funny, everything to do with aviation, yet it goes to Aviation humor.
Another guy starts a similar thread and it completely disappears.
I ask for an answer to who moved that thread and why. I haven't gotten it yet. If I haven't gotten it by the time I head for the kip tonight, I will not be posting here anymore.
Rob, many forums are populated by low mentale knuckledraggers. This is far from the worst, but I take your point. What you miss is that these you complain of regularly have their faces rubbed in it. Some go away, some persist, and some improve.
But the forum is dying, no doubt about that.

Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
Ogee, I moved your thread ... the other Forum is not just Humour, but Political Debate and Misc. That dreaded forum is used for a lot of purposes. Further, the phrases used by yourself in starting the thread, and others in continuing it, made it clear that nobody was going to mind their manners so I moved it. Figured it would require less moderating in there.
Every once in a while, a thread like this pops up complaining about the way we moderate. You just can't please everyone all the time!
Sometimes, some of you seem to forget that we mods are volunteers, we do not spend 24-7 here reading every single word of every post in every thread in every forum. We also count on your help as readers - if things are going sideways, or even if you just think it is going to, let us know by using that "!" and report the post.
I'm moving this thread too. Please feel free to continue griping though.
I'm going back to enjoy the last of this long weekend with my kids.

Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
Seems this is going to be a complete waste of time posting here, as the thread has been moved to a category I've never even clicked on before.
It is very sad, that not only are the many negative posters really bringing this forum down, but my attempt to address this situation, in the General Forum,
where all AvCanada readers would have not only read, possibly commented, along with the Haters knowing we are on to them.
This reminds me of Buttonville Airport, wicked little airport, severely underused by corporate aviation, everyone loves the airport - but is doing nothing to save it.
So if the Mods like/love what they are doing, why are we not working together to improve this rather than ditch a post to never, never land where it will remain
unread - Haters win again, AvCanada and the Mods lose again - what's up with that????

Clearly, everyone is out to get you.
Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
Well now, I am sorry that we do not live up to your high standards Rob but if you go to the top of the index page you will see a view new posts line that you can click on and it will show you all the new posts regardless of what catagory it is under. Short of that, thanks for visitting this site and have a good life.

Careful Robb, your point of view looses credibility quickly when you misrepresent things. A quick search shows you've actually posted in this forum 26 times. Who knows how often you visit.robbreid wrote:as the thread has been moved to a category I've never even clicked on before.
Also, the Misc forum is the 2nd most read/posted forum after General. And outdistances 3rd place by a wide margin. So it's still going to be read by a vast majority of people here. As long as you maintain integrity as a poster yourself.
The only reason it's at the bottom in the list of forums is that it was determined that it frequently doesn't relate to aviation directly. But it is still the 2nd most popular place, so a post going here is not really that bad.

Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
You know, posting a response to something like this is almost a waste of time, but I've been up all night so here goes.
Rob,
Whether or not I agree with the issues raised in your post or not is really here nor there because:
a) By choosing to post a thread in this manner calling out a bunch of people who have real lives and jobs and volunteer their time to moderate the site is just poor form and doesn't win you any sympathy. How would you respond? Do you have any idea how many posts are made here each day? You have no idea the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes already. When's the last time you hit the "Report" button to tell us about one the posters you find so objectionable? Don't worry, I know the answer it's in the logs, or not as it were.
b) By choosing to post this thread as opposed to PMing any one of us about your concerns and starting a constructive dialogue like a great many posters do, you've again gone down a path that is counterproductive and is not likely to get anyone to respond constructively.
c) This is a site used by a great many people, it is anonymous and therefore is a beast of a very certain nature. People use if for a great many reasons, and while there are many of us who try hard to contribute in a positive fashion, many others use it to vent and stir shit - it is what it is, and there is only so much steering we can do.
It's not so much what you're trying to say, but how you're saying it - resembles the people you're complaining about actually. If you'd like to approach this from another direction, I'm game.
Ogee,
Suck it up buttercup. You got a thread moved, is it really that big a drama? I mean come on, what's your attitude like in the airplane when something goes wrong? You toss your toys from the pram there too? "The site is dying..." Really, the stats say otherwise.
I saw your thread after the second one was put up, if you want to discuss a topic in General post something of relevance other than the link, Widow was 100% correct moving it to Misc. because of the way you posted on it. The other thread was left, I'm sure you can see the difference.
--------------------------------------
It's about time all the people who claim they want this site to be better step up to the plate and start leading by example, this thread imho is not in line with that concept. If you want to contribute in a way that allows the site and those running it do a better job, use the tools provided to you to make that happen and post in a mature way, whether or not you have a concern that you feel needs voiced. If people feel that strongly, offer some assistance, bitching gets nobody any closer to where we want to be.
It's no wonder our profession is going down hill so fast if the level of maturity displayed here on Avcanada most days is generally indicative of that in the workplace. This may be the internet, but please grow up. You get out what you put in.

Seems to me you are a guy who posts some interesting stuff, mainly the Biz-jet stuff, but I'm not sure I follow you on this one. You have a choice, as I do, it's exercised with your mouse, if you don't like it, don't read it. Bashing the very people who will help take care of your issue is a somewhat suspect approach though.I suggest the mods start cracking down on these lame contributors to AvCanada Forums, or step down as a mod, and find someone

Re: To all the Haters on AvCanada . . .
It appears to me that most people seem to be in favor of having lots of moderation on posts/posters they disagree with, but that their own posts should remain untouched. Funny how that is. I mean, was I the only person who got a chuckle out of a guy posting "There should be more moderation on the site" and in the same thread another person posting "Why was my thread moderated?"
Whatever - it doesn't work out perfectly either way for a few reasons, most of which can be found by entering "censorship" on the search tab at the top right corner of this site.
Basically it's the philosophy that free speech should be encouraged subject to only a few rules, in addition to the reality that, far from dying, this site continues to expand in both posts and posters. We have just under 31,000 accounts on AvCanada, or roughly one account for every 2 licensed pilots in Canada.
On an average day, there are a few hundred new posts on this site. The only way to guarantee that every post gets read by a mod is to hire a full-time staff to do exactly that, and I'm not sure the Google ads revenue is so robust as to be able to pay that sort of money. You know, seeing as how the site is non-profit as it is.
If you have a problem with someone's posts, then PM a mod and we will take a look at it. That's the deal, and that's what you get as a function of your free membership here. Whining about it only serves to annoy just about everyone who reads the post.

My posts are edited for content or deleted outright all the time (shrug). I don't complain. It's not like Sully grabbed my wee-wee. It's a post on an internet website, for God's sake, not your lifetime Magnum Opus.

Nanny state.

I was scolded on another forum because of the way I post, I was told I should only be nice. I told him I'm not always nice in real life, so why should I pretend in pretend aviation land life? He (mod) didn't want peoples feelings hurt in his forum.
There are a good number of people who lurk here, but are smart enough to know what AvCanada has to offer. A reflection of real life indeed. The asshole, the arrogant one, the knowledgeable one, the nanny etc.....
Cat is missed indeed.

I was a moderator for years on a forum much larger than this one. There is a concept that is crucial to keeping a forum alive: conflict is necessary, and conflict is good. Without conflict, your forum quickly becomes boring and lifeless. Opposing viewpoints are what generates discussion, and discussion is the lifeblood of a forum.Nark wrote:I was scolded on another forum because of the way I post, I was told I should only be nice.
That said, sometimes threads are created that rehash the same points that have been covered a thousand times over. This thread is one of them. On a good forum that's alive and vibrant, the members themselves will police the thread and it will die off on its own. That was happening here, but the well meaning but ill informed moderators stepped in and killed some posts, thereby prolonging the agony.

Yeah, that's hilarious.I should only be nice
You can tell many people here are quite young, and lack any experience in the real world. I have worked in many large multi-national corporations where the politics is played hardball - really nasty, dirty and tough. Billions of dollars is at stake, and the delicate crybabies here wouldn't make it through one morning, at a real company.
That said, I have a question:
Q: Which would you prefer: a competent pilot with a sometimes abrasive personality, or a really nice guy who is a weak stick and keeps having accidents?
I know which one I would prefer to work with, and I'm certain my opinion differs from the majority here, who value very different characteristics than I do.
