I see PPRUNe is deleting any replys that are not in 'Proper English'.

This seems a little over the top. I understand that some people use this type of writing style way to much, but PPRUNE has stated that even if they see you saying "U" instead of "YOU", the entire post will be deleted?

I do think that proper english is important, but small abbrev. (haha?) should still be acceptable, no?

Does AVCANADA have any interest in making changes similar to PPRUNE?

Thoughts?

(And you thought Widow was a hard a$$!) (No offence Widow :goodman: )

Do you mean both "broken" and "improper" English or just "improper" English? I can understand someone trying to post & contribute when their primary language isn't English. However, it is very annoying and some what rude when people start to use "u", "yrs", "y" in a forum post. First, you're not charged by the letter like messaging on a cell phone. Second, speedy reply is not required like you're in a chat room.

Personally, it's pretty emberassing to see certain people on this board who claim to represent a very responsible profession, but, at the same time, don't make any effort to raise their grammar, spelling and punctuation from a Grade 7 level. So yes, I would support what you mentioned.

The title says it all - do not use text message abbreviations instead of proper English.

"Text speak" (aka SMS language, Textese, txtese, chatspeak, txt, textspeak, txtspk, txtk, texting language, or txt tlk) is the substitution of characters for words - e.g. u for you, r for are etc. etc. and the abbreviation of words e.g. pls for please, thnx for thanks etc. etc.

Ignorance is no excuse! If in doubt, look it up on google.

Is it worth having your entire post deleted just to save the two letters of Y and O in YOU?

Persistent users of "Text Speak" will be banned from this forum for a few days until they understand that NO TEXT SPEAK is one of the few forum rules.

A reminder of the complete forum requirements - posts in this forum MUST:

•Be in English
•Not use text message abbreviations.
•Make sufficient use of punctuation & grammar to be readable.
•Not be used instead of private messages.
•Not be used to tell somebody else about a private message.
•Have a point (i.e. be relevant to the thread and not chatter)

I completely agree.

I routinely use google or a quick dictionary online tool when I write some of my posts, spelling isn't my forte (I looked that one up).

I try to be professional when I'm at work, so why shouldn't I be on here among my peers?

I agree. Can we take a vote who wants AvCanada to do the same?

I understand typo's but some posters are just too lazy to proofread.

I hate trying to read jibberish. Text speak on a forum is the equivilent of walking with your pants around your ankles.

However, I prefer to mock and ridicule.

My favourite reply to those who can't be bothered with capitols, punctuation, or grammar, is;
