Perhaps I'm biased as the captain of this LET-410 flight was an acquaintance, but I do think humour has absolutely NO place in this thread.

I edited the first to posts as I do not think they were funny enough to be worth the disrespect.

While I think the Antoine post is funny enough (at least to me) it is not meant as any disrespect to the deceased. It is a tragic event that had humorous circumstances.

I would like to give a heartfelt apology though and condolences to anyone who did now the pilot or passengers.

I kind of assumed that due to the location of the incident these individuals would be relatively anonymous to this board.

So, from my understanding from this thread, most people think that because the crash was in the Congo, it deserves to be put in the Misc. Forum for people to make jokes about and laugh at, despite the fact that a bunch of people died... pretty sad if you ask me.

Stange... no one made jokes about those Beaver crashes that happened this season in Canada.

I started the thread with the idea of WTF next? The accident actually occurred on August 25th but the alleged reason remained unreported until the Brit tabs got hold of it.

JAC, people die and get killed every day - in all cases it is sad, and a devastating blow to the victim's family. I don't think that anyone has lost sight of that fact.

JAC, I also think it has to do with the fact that CFIT is a serious problem and might have contributed to some of the beaver crashes... whereas a croc causing people to freak out does seem to fit under the misc forum and pretty damn random / unlucky at that

What I find as distasteful as some of the comments on this thread is the fact that the discussion of this accident has been locked by the moderators on the General Discussion Forum and left relegated to the Aviation Humor forum.

Is it funny only because it happened in Africa? In the past, there have been morons of a similar gene pool releasing non-natural species such as piranhas in lakes in North America.
