What is the ideal level of atmospheric carbon dioxide?

What is the ideal level of atmospheric carbon dioxide?

If regulators had the ability to adjust the percentage or parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the manner you set the thermostat in your dwelling, accounting for all we know about science and biology where would the level be set?
