Re: CAE
Yes.
Worked there for a few years.
Their training is run out of Dallas as CAE Montreal don't know the first thing about training. They manufacture simulators.
Contractors are the instructors of choice because they don't want to 'employ' a rubber band instructor work force at their training centres. Although they cull the employee herd around there with shocking regularity.
Another thing they do, they think Americans know more about training pilots than Canadians. They bought Simuflite a few years back and between that crowd and a number of ex-American airline types they're trying to take over the training world and simulator market. Basically, Dallas CAE is their Central Command and whatever goes on in any of their centres seems to be determined by the brain trust in Dallas. They think nothing of sending an American contractor up here to instruct. But, don't try to go down there. Historically? No can do!
Their flight training VP in Montreal also happens to be American. Good or bad? I don't know. I only have an opinion.
Unfortunately, for them, many customers complain they get too many instructors for type rating training and the training is inconsistent and frustrating because their contractors all have various methods, techniques and SOPs making it a very frustrating experience.
...but, who am I to judge? Quality assurance means different things to different people so, it ain't all bad. Canadians are giving Canada away anyway so none of this should come to anyone as a surprise.
