And we call ourselves professionals
Someone I know sent me this video today and asked me; is this the maturity level of pilots these days? She was shocked and said that she had always placed a great deal of trust and faith into the pilots that fly the planes she travels on. After seeing this video she is now concerned that those at the controls of the planes she flies these days lack the maturity level needed to hold a position of such high responsibility. She further went on to tell me how she has lost respect for "professional pilots" after seeing this kind of behaviour. To the crew of this Perimeter Dash 8 thank you for representing our profession to such a high standard. You did us proud. Your management should nominate you both for crew of the month award for representing your company so well. Nice job!

Btw: I did tell her not to paint us all with the same brush and that this display was more the exception than the norm however she said "I would rather take a dog sled before flying perimeter again!" Remember boys and girls your actions not only represent you but the company name plastered all over the side of your ride and the profession which we all worked so hard to achieve. Don't go out of your way to tarnish either.

Deep down she hopes one day to have the chance to date one of us. Why was she looking at videos involving a finger and a pilot?

Re: And we call ourselves professionals
So based on the video of one pilot she's draws conclusions on a entire industry?
Sounds like a dumb chick, she's welcome to take a bus next time she needs to get somewhere.
Not that flipping the camera the bird was a good idea, but being filmed does get a little annoying, maybe I should film her at work then draw a conclusion on her entire profession when she gets annoyed (which she will).
If I were the pilot would I have given the camera the bird, no, would I maybe report "suspicious activity" "lens glare" "camera flash" or something to tower and get the guy lit up a little, sure.

Did she not realize that was the co-pilot, not even a real commercial airline pilot?

Well supercharged it is today reality of social media. Her perception is her reality. Just like people who hear about one Air Canada flight attendant or gate agent with a bad attitude leads someone to believe Air Canada service is bad. No one ever talks or makes conversation of the good service. It's actions like this video that leave a lasting impression otherwise this would have been normal -8 landing and taxi and this regular air traveller could have given a $hit. Instead she has a video link that she will likely share with hundreds of others that shows how some "professionals" in our industry represent us. Whether you like it or not filming airplanes and activities at airports has gone on for decades. I see people filming at the gate all the time. Would you suggest flipping them the bird as you walk down the jetway is justified? Really? You want to be treated and paid like a professional start acting like one. That goes for everyone. I believe we can do without this kind of behaviour because it certainly isn't going to help anyone of us when it comes time to start negotiating for higher "professional" compensation or protecting what we have left. The fact that some in our fraternity find this action justifiable is disturbing. Is this what we as a group have devolved too?

That's the sort of stuff that will come back to bite the pilot. All it takes is it getting round to the cp or someone else in Perimeter and its tea and biscuits and possibly resume time. I agree with the OP..not wise and completely unnecessary. You'd think we'd be happy that there are still some aviation nuts out there that appreciate aircraft.

Bad idea. It won't take long for someone at PAG to figure out who this guy is.

Re: And we call ourselves professionals
You sound like you would be an absolute riot to spend a 14 hour day in the cockpit with! We could talk about V speeds, the good old days when we had to hand calculate 1st, 2nd and 3rd segment, and then brag about all our other mature professional friends we know. Sign me up!

Maybe the first officer though he was in an inverted negative 4g dive with a Mig 28!?
Welcome to Redneck Airlines. We might not get you there but we'll get you close!
Re: And we call ourselves professionals
Hopefully she doesn't have to go to Island Lake regularly, or else she'll be doing a lot of dog sledding!!"I would rather take a dog sled before flying perimeter again!"

Wow. Can I have my 6 minutes back? How about a link to the three seconds of that video that's really of interest?
Oh, wait, Helmet Fire got it.

Re: And we call ourselves professionals
Was there no other planes to film during those long 6 mins? And we don't have the whole story now do we? Maybe the cameraman/woman was flipping the pilots the finger or such to provoke a reaction. I don't condone the actions of that FO at all especially when it's so easy to ignore the cameras.
Re: And we call ourselves professionals
Maybe my eyes are going but did it ever occur to anyone he wasn't giving the finger? Could have been giving the "rock on" gesture. I couldn't tell either way. Why someone would randomly give some filming the finger is beyond me.
