Union drives

All of these recent union drives at Westjet, etc got me thinking about a couple things. Maybe someone could shed some light on this for me.....

How do they decide seniority once they actually become organized? I guess it does not apply to pilots but many people started off in different positions within the company before the arrival of the union so the company start date would be different from time in the department that has unionized. How do they sort this out?

Usually by date of hire. If one was in a different dept I'm sure that'd be taken into consideration

I would expect date of hire as a pilot...

That's how it is at AC anyway... There are a few ex-FAs that became pilots and they draw a number on their course date just like anyone else...

So....if I understand you correctly.....Say, for example, hired as a Flight Attendant in 1986 and hired as a Pilot in 1990.....seniority date in the pilot union is 1990?

yes but you keep DOJ for vacations and travel
