Skywest's 170s are actually 175s. Embraer actually doesn't consider them different models in terms of certification. All 175s Have serial numbers that start with 170. Same with the 195 and 190.

My understanding is that the 175 has more seats and heavier weight on the same wing and engine, and this is part of the reason its drift down numbers are not as good as the 170.

SkyWest operates 170's all over the western US.

My understanding is that the 170 is a far better performer than the 175 per lb; correct me if I'm wrong, EMB guys?

I'm not an EMB guy (CRJ all the way!) just an airplane geek.
I think the former Air Canada EMB's are 175's, and it seems that the 175 designation is just a marketing label for what is technically an EMB 170-200.
The 175 is 5'10" longer and has an MTOW 3,000 to 4,000 lbs. heavier than the 170 depending on variant.
Same wing and same thrust from CF34-8E's.
The difference in performance would be marginal and would only become apparent at max weights.

I heard a rumor that SKY might be starting operations in YVR in addition to current bases YYZ YZT YUL .....can anyone confirm or anyone else hear this or bs or ?? If so I'm guessing EMBs?

A good rumour will help recruitment drive and morale. Please go on.
I think a union setting up shop at sky will happen long before a YVR base.
