Employment Hedge

#1 Post by futboler14 » Tue Jan 12, 2016 4:49 pm

Lets be honest. The chance of more lay off's, especially in Alberta is coming. It's time to start exploring other possible employment ideas, whether it's a side gig or not.

I'd be curious to know what other members do to offset aviation exposure.

A construction sideline is always good. I had done drywall and painting. It seems that there's usually always someone looking for another pair of hands even if you're not all that skilled because many are willing to train if you're willing to work.

Go the John Conlee route, become an undertaker, because that's one of two industries that have guaranteed business.

Don't worry, JT will look after you if you lose your job. He seems nice in all the pictures.

Organic Farmer. Hobby level right now, can ramp up to full-time pay in a few months.

takecharge.navcanada.ca

You get paid to become ATC. Not that much, but perhaps you can apply your aviation related skills to a trade that pays well at the end (given you study and prep for it accordingly). Takes about a year from application to be on the line training I believe.

Thanks for the takecharge.navcanada.ca link, I didn't know something like that existed.
