American Airlines is offering its pilots an instant raise

Post by aerodude »

"As our industry has rapidly evolved and pay increases at other airlines have accelerated, some of our colleagues have fallen behind their peers at other airlines in base pay rates," CEO Doug Parker said in a letter to employees. " ... This doesn't feel right for the new American, and it doesn't feel consistent with our commitment."

Delta gave everyone 6% across the board on top of their contacts last November.

For pilots that was on top of the 18.5% single year raise in the new CBA...

24.5% raise overnight...

Meanwhile in Canuckistan we move toward:
- a lower tier 2 at the established LCC
- below inflation raises and concessionary cost neutral contracts at the legacy airline
- both companies pressuring pilots shifting lift to regionals/cpa/lcc/tier2/cargo/etc
- all during periods of record profit...

DOG HELP US IF TIMES GET BAD IF THIS IS THE BEST WE CAN DO WHEN THEY'RE GOOD...

They have a collective agreement until 2020, the company is giving a raise to remain competitive in employee retention. No strings attached.

So what exactly are our American counterparts doing differently than us? How is it that the WJ folk are justifying a ULCC during times of profit? I just don't get it. Sure it's all cyclical but like it's been said, this is what happens when everyone's currently in the green??
