Vancouver downtown apartment rental vacancies?

#1 Post by CBcloud9 » Mon May 08, 2017 11:22 pm

I am a Jazz pilot from Ontario looking to move to CYVR for an upgrade. I know the city, (more the airport) but I don't know how or where I should start looking for an apartment/house/live outside the city. With Van house prices being so crazy, are most people who wish to live full time in Vancouver still buying and deciding to commute? I have heard that buying outside the city to the East (ie. Kent, Hope, BC) have only ownership/lease rights for 100 years, and then it has to be given back because it is Native land? Is this true?

Disclaimer - if anyone has a bachelor pad / studio / apartment near downtown Vancouver/Richmond and they are looking to rent as of July 1st, 2017 (budget is between $800-$1600 / month, parking preferred.) PM me please! I am a very reliable and respectful tenant.

The only people that move around the country more than pilots during a pilot shortage is a gypsy looking to finally settle his family down in them mountains in Saskatchewan or Manitoba.

Good luck with that budget, honestly. If you want to live anywhere near Vancouver you'll be well into the 1500/month for a single bedroom worth living in. I've been searching for something in Vancouver/Kits/Cambie area for 5 months and still haven't found the right place. All the cheaper places are dumps (and by cheap I mean 1400-1500). Your options are to either find a room mate if you want to be in Vancouver or move to the valley. A lot of pilots live out in Surrey/White Rock/Langley. I'm in South Surrey and just drove home an hour ago. Took me 30 min.

You can find a nice basement unit for in your budget in the White Rock/South Surrey area. That's your best option.

Google Map White Rock. And go all the way from the water to 40th ave and out to about 200th. In that square you should be able to find something pretty easily. If you can afford to, townhouses in 30-40 min of the airport run around 400k.

Here's a few options. All well within 30-1hr. Depending on the time of day and traffic but on average 30min.

YVR is brutally expensive to live in.

The commute even from White Rock can be a frustrating experience even at the best of times.

If I were you, I'd look into shared accoms in Steveston. It's a gem of a community!

Hope that helps,

Good point, and especially with the bridge construction it's going to get worse. If you can get yourself on the north side of the Fraser then you're golden. Steveston is quite nice. There are also reasonably priced condos on the dyke just across from the Flying Beaver.
