Yeah, kinda funny!

I wonder if its because we are some of, if not the lowest paid airline pilots in the "first world" ?
Actually, I'd wager that we have the lowest [take-home income] / [cost of living] ratio out there.

Kinda sad, is what it is...

We take sub-par salaries and benefits in one of the best times to be a pilot in decades in this country, with LCC pilots south of the border out classing us and we accept it. Yet we worry about a 700$ card devided amongst 5-10 cheap pilots (myself included).

The worst part is, they are just enforcing rules that we all signed when we got the card. To be honest I only used it when I flown as a passenger, it was just embarrassing watching uniformed crews (front and back) going at it with the buffet. Still is a great perk as a passenger especially when you are travelling with the wife.

Says something about our profession in this country doesn’t it?

The food at best was mediocre. I was bringing in my own food especially in YYC. I was using the lounge for quiet time as the terminal was too noisy especially with the WJ announcements telling me this was a good time to go the f-ing washroom. Mind you there were a more than a few times when the younger demographic of air crew were rather lot.

Once again due to abuse another amenity is lost. I’m sure Amex will miss the amount I charge on my card.

Ya that was always a hard pass for me, glad it’s over. Food sucks, and you’re a complete interloper. Awkward all around.

Well actually I found it quite nice when you're on a deadhead from London to Paris and the other guy has a lounge pass so you can sit in comfort for an hour before the flight. On the other hand, European lounges are better than the Canadian ones even when they aren't stuffed full of loud pilots.

Saw the writing on the wall a long time ago. I did not renew the card.
Some crew members had absolutely zero class and ruined the experience for everyone.
Getting one card and dishing out supp cards? How low can you go?
Simply embarrassing...Good on Amex for enforcing new rule.

...Seems they are going to remove the axe and the control column from the cockpits for security reasons.

I think you've answered your own question. It wasn't marketed as a "crew lounge". It was marketed as a business traveller perk. Had AMEX thought they could've made money on the concept of crew lounge
Then why did the AMEX hustlers in T1 always target flight crew in uniform flaunting lounge access

Working for commission or quota you don’t give a rats ass who signs up or what the card is about. If they don’t push the cards they don’t make money and/or they lose their job.

Definitely just witnessed a pilot get arrested/escorted out of the Plaza lounge in YVR. He was demanding that it was his right to enter without a boarding pass. What a tool. Way to represent our profession there buddy....

Wait whaaaat? Like actually escorted/arrested (which is it?) by airport RCMP or asked to leave by lounge staff?

Part of me wants to say "about time" - and if lounge staff are enforcing the rules then good on 'em. Was travelling back and forth between YVR and home for couple years (fare paying and not in work clothes) and early on that lounge was pretty good - before it became a new crew/CSA lunch room...

Jesus.
The people working the desk there don't deserve to deal deal with idiots like that. I hope he was arrested and charged . Serves him right . Yvr has some of the nicest staff.

It's not yelling FHITP at a reporter on live television, but the incident does raise concerns for the employer regarding one of their employees behaving in such a manner at the airport, in uniform. Good luck.

Affirm. RCMP escorted the individual out (not in cuffs). The lounge staff were pissed haha

Now i am Curious if this individual is from one of the major airlines. Hopefully if whom ever it was creating hell at minimum gets suspended for a period of time for making the company look bad while they are in uniform.

I would think with this being on airport property if this individual raised to much hell and RCMP getting involved their red pass could be in Jeopardy.

From the horses mouth :

It was a dine and dash, and is being handled by the RCMP.
I won't divulge the airline suffice to say I'm happy it was not WJ/ WJE.

I’m very curious, how can you dine and dash at a lounge that requires membership to enter?
I suspect said pilot has a membership and they were denying access, so he/she walked in grabbed some stuff and was then reported to police.
I can imagine if you signed up recently under the old rules or not enforced rules you’d be pissed when they start denying access, perhaps a prorated refund should be issued.

it is absolutely demented to me that a pilot would ever think they're not a scamming the system. You pay a couple hundred bucks for a CC and expect free meals. When clearly the intention is that the card be used by the travelling public not pilots who have a quick turn, every day, all the time, always.
