Jazz vs Encore

Post by av8ts »

On YQM Center yesterday morning I’m listening to aircraft holding due to weather at YFC. ATC ask Jazz what RVR they require for an approach. Jazz replies 4000. ( ILS DH above 200AGL and 5000 RVR or 1 sm on the approach plate). ATC asks Encore what RVR they require and they answer 2600. RVR at the airport was between 2600 and 4000 so ATC starts vectoring Encore for an approach. We then changed freqs so I don’t know what happened after.
My question is this- was Jazz following a company imposed higher limit or were they following a TC approach ban?

I'm will go out on a limb and guess that Jazz has the same ban policy guidance as AC. If that is the case, flying the ILS on 09 in YFC they would only be good down to 3/4 or 4000 RVR. This is company imposed guidance I believe as one of the preventative measures that came out of the YHZ accident.

Yes it's an AC approach ban that jazz and I assume all the AC express carriers follow

I think we’d be safe in saying that EVAS doesn’t follow it.

Perhaps LPV approach (using 50% of recommended visibility) vs. ILS approach (using 75% of recommended visibility).

You would be correct.

Also, three HUD could be inop.

However when everything works, Q vs Q, Jazz has lower limits of Cat3 to 50 feet RA.

Not knowing since I don’t fly there but I would be willing to bet YFC doesn’t have CAT 3, also as far as I understand Encore doesn’t have HUD’s either

Even with the HUD Jazz limit on the YFC ILS is 3/4 or 4000. The HUD only lowers the limits if DA is 200 AGL

EVAS is required to follow the AC approach ban on AC numbered flights (CPA Flights). Whether they do or not, who knows.
