...Seems they are going to remove the axe and the control column from the cockpits for security reasons.

So simple minded to have a notice like that apply to aircraft already airborne. It actually makes aviation less safe by forcing a diversion. It shows how out of touch with reality regulators can be.

Absolutely ridiculous.

MCAS events are "low speed" issues. They left Spain headed for Scandanavia, likely entering French airspace at .79 Mach....safe as can be. The authorities forced them into the "slow speed" supposed "danger-zone" phase for an approach in France.

If they were really concerned about "safety" they would have allowed them to transit as quickly as possible.

Bureaucrats. No clue that the aircraft is in a "steady state" when in cruise at high Mach speeds.

DP.

Another website states that they flew at 12,000' the whole way with flaps extended, thereby disabling MCAS since MCAS only operates with flaps up.

Also disabled with autopilot on. Seems like that would have been the better choice... Autopilot on before your last notch of flaps comes up, then only disconnect once flaps are down.
