Will Enerjet fly?

I think the word "niche" has gone out of style or run its course. But, maybe they can prove me wrong. We all have our niche afterall.

Short answer: No

Long answer: I have always wished them luck but the plan (the original one) seemed flawed at the begining. i.e. Last year Transat tried running a flight YQL-PVR 6 times over the winter season with WS providing the lift; didn't work. Okay, so let's try something else like YMM-PVR. I would think that they launch something anywhere near a WS base, Westjet will throw a flight on and undercut. Now they are moving to do crew hauls in an NG, but apparently they don't have a contract yet. They have kept themselves in the news and brought their aircraft in but it seems to me that they are doing this to try to raise interest and capital which they have not been able to do. (Remember the original requirement was 70 million) They must be burning through a lot of cash to bring that NG on board as lessors like to get paid (unless they have got a smokin' deal given the market conditions). Bottom line, I hope they can go but the cards are increasingly stacked against them.

P.S. That really isn't a very flattering picture of Tim

I agree. It will be difficult yet again if their BP includes the "oil patch" over to the 'east" aka NL they may carve out some sort of niche as long as the oil patch is humming and that is debateable in the present circumstances.

As for sun destinations, well they are up against Air Canada/WJ/Air Transat/Sunwing/CanJet who have carved out a "niche" themselves along with reliability which is a big thing for travellers who like to sun their arses like me..

Like the young married couple next door - you sincerely wish them the very best!

I just scanned the article so correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it said they don't have their CTA license yet, so how can they fly by December 1st. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong but Transport won't issue an OC until there is the CTA license. The wheels of beuracracy don't turn that quickly

Well they certainly have some high-time experienced (millionaire) 737 Pilots running up front as Co-Captain's. I think the guys that went over were all single or double digit seniority numbers.

Why would they do that? With seniority like that, why go?

no risk to them. If enerjet fails, they retire. If enerjet kicks ass, they get richer. Something new and exciting, and nothing to lose...

If the 1st time worked and made you lots of money, why not try again with the same folks?

Ya, good points guys but I don't think they'll see a repeat of that 1st time. I actually think they are making a mistake. Going through the growing pains of a new company at their age. I don't know. I suppose they can always pull the plug and go fishing.

Tony, there is no seniority at WJ. Perks would make a senior pilot stay at AC; choice of schedule, vacation priority etc, aren't a factor. You get what the newest Capt. on the line gets.

I hope it turns out great for these guys. It's too bad that their contribution to the start up of WJ was largely ignored when they left. Heard they got a nice 737 model on the way out the door, though.

Arctic84, without being facetious (at least trying not to be), one could consider the generous pre-IPO ESP and stock option grants to be sufficient reward and thanks. These were employees after all, who were paid to do a job (as hard a job as that might have been).

The model beats a watch or tie clip.

Has anyone applied at Enerjet? Looks like a good push for hiring will be going on for a January start date.

Valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License
Minimum 2,500 hours of total flying time
with min. 1,000 hrs fixed wing Pilot in Command experience and 500 hrs fixed wing multi-engine experience
Valid Transport Canada Class 1 instrument rating
Current 737 NG type rating
Valid Transport Canada category 1 Medical
Hold a valid Canadian Passport
Hold a valid Transport Canada Restricted Area Pass or be able to obtain within 4 weeks of start date
Must be fluent in English, oral and written, other languages are an asset
Hmmm....guess they learned from Westjet how to cut training costs.

As far as I'm concerned, Enerjet can piss off for practices like this.
