I heard they were re-exploring tri-plane design. I feel Sopwith and Fokker will be competitive in this market.

Seriously, I have heard that rumour from a management person, because ATR makes a 50 seater as well as the 78(?) seat one. Bombardier, on the other hand only makes the Q400 now and Jazz will have to start replacing the 100/300 in the future as they are getting a tad old. Some routes jazz has woudn't support a Q400

Bombardier also makes the Q200 and Q300, which seats 37-39 and 50-52 passengers respectively. That seems like it would be the best option, but it makes sense that they would be considering ATRs I guess.

I've heard that only the 400 is in production now, but that the smaller models are available to order. Not sure if that means a minimum order amount to build them, or if a guy calls up and wants a 200 for a corporate shuttle, they would build it.

Bombardier has decided to abandon Q200/Q300 production to concentrate production efforts on the Q400. The last Q300 rolled off the line a couple of months ago and is currently being modded over at Field Aviation for the Japanese Coast Guard. The Q300/Q200 jigs and other production machinery have been moved away from the factory already, so that's the end of that...

Maybe Jazz should order some new Viking DHC6-400's instead!

Arkia Airlines decided on ATR's over the Dash 8-400 a few years back.

In any case Jazz (at some point much to everyone's chagrin) will get 400's. no wait....

Star Alliance ........ Continental Q400 (YYZ)

Seems to me (humor me it's a stretch of the imagination) like Jazz already has Q400's at their disposal....

They are also exploring the rebuild option being offered by Bombardier for the DHC8-100. Other companies are getting in on it and could provide cockpit and cabin upgrades as well. I'm sure if JHazz does go the Q400 route a deal for the Dash 100 rebuilds will be included.

The 200 and 300 were old designs and some parts from what I heard would no longer be supported. It made more sense to abandon the type and focus on the Q400. On a more interesting note due to demand for the 300 still being strong I read somewhere that a shortened Q400 was in the works, say a Q350 which would have parts commonality with the 400. Than again Bombardier has been floating the idea of a 90 seat Q500 too so we'll see what happens. My guess is their waiting for someone to commit to orders before proceeding with the projects.

I hear fat people can buy seats with Jazz that have extra space, but the downside is they send your ass for liposuction before the flight.

Hopefully the jigs are enroute to Viking
Let me see now. Most Companies still like the 100/200/300 series Dash 8.....

Giving the jigs to Viking would be like giving them licence to print money.

no?

I know some equipment went to scrap. Exactly what i can't say.

The ATR 42-500 is a good replacement for the 300 series 8's.

ATR's are a fine product. You can see the airbus in them......

Bombardier screwed it up big time. No C series for AC and no replacement 8's. Not everyone wants to buy 75 seater.

Embraer and ATR will be the king here.....right in Bombardier soil.

I hope they go with Bombardier. Not too keen on hearing about all these layoffs (some 700 a few weeks ago in Montreal, and over 4000 this year).
Plus the 8s are better looking.

Mayday on the Discovery channel just ran the American Eagle ATR episode (ice build up). Perhaps, the Q400's would be better choice.

You didn't stay up late to see that the ATR 72 had its de-ice boot redesigned and they now forbid the use of flap in known icing conditions. There has not been an accident since. The Q400 just recently has had problems with gear collapse and some companies were trying to get rid of their entire fleet of Q400s (SAS).
