Virgin America to Enter Canadian Market
The National Post is reporting this morning that Virgin America is proposing to enter the Canadian market later this summer with SFO-YYZ-SFO service.

Now I realize it is one route initially for a carrier with a "thinner" market presence in the US, but my initial though was "bad for Westjet" as I sort of lump them into the same pack in terms of being LCC with good domestic reach, though as I think about it more this is probably as bad for Air Canada on the basis that transborder traffic was supposed to be one of the primary growth areas over the next few years. Though with that said, the established frequent flyer program and international onward reach perhaps this is more of a threat to Westjet.
Thoughts?

AC does YYZ-SFO, YVR-SFO, YYC-SFO. I think WJ only provides YYC-SFO service.

Given Air Canada's aggressive objections to Emirates flying in to Canada, will they protest against Virgin America doing the same?

I don't think Virgin America is going to bring the capacity Emirates was looking at to Canada.
