CanJet to get 737-500!

CanJet Secures 737-500

Halifax-based CanJet announced today that the carrier has taken delivery of the first of a new type of aircraft for the carrier, a Boeing 737-500.

CanJet is billing the aircraft as an "interim solution" for the airline, which previously had announced it was evaluating Boeing and Airbus aircraft types to replace and expand its fleet of six Boeing 737-200s. The seventh aircraft to join the CanJet fleet is a Boeing 737-500 series configured with 120 leather seats. This aircraft, to be followed shortly by similar aircraft, has now been certified for commercial operations by Transport Canada and will join its fleet shortly.

"The 737-500 provides CanJet with an interim solution to our immediate capacity requirements while we continue negotiations with manufacturers regarding our eventual choice of aircraft for the longer term," said CanJet COO Julie Gossen.

The 737-500 provides CanJet with about 26 percent more range, enabling the airline to launch new nonstop routes that were previously not possible.

Word is that CanJet will get 3 more 500's by Sept. some hiring for the new aircraft has already taken place
