Transat 787's?

Post by chopsticks »

In the following article from March 1, 2012, Allen Graham, President of Transat Canada says the following
Currently, the fleet is made up of 23 aircraft; 11 Airbus A310s and 12 Airbus A330s. We are going to gradually replace the Airbus 310s with A330s and Boeing 787s. With regards to the medium-haul, we are going to continue to work with Canjet and their fleet of Boeing 737-800 with 189 seats. Our contract with them runs until May 2014.
Did he let something slip, or has there been any internal communication regarding getting 787's at Air Transat?

I believe that was a typo. Transat would probably like the 787s as it would be a good 250 seater type of airplane to replace the a310s, but it's not a likely replacement at this point in time. Right now the company is focusing on returning to profitability. Maybe once airlines get their 787s it will free up 767s for TS, but who knows. It's aviation after all, don't believe it until you see it

Also think it's a typo .... unfortunately.

787 would be the perfect candidate to replace the 10s, capable of long range and still efficient enough to do short haul in the winters.
Maybe in 20 years when they start to get cheaper :(

Airplanes are cheap. Flying them is expensive.

Actually, airfares are cheap. Buying new airplanes and operating them is expensive.

Just read the latest Q results. Not good, I would expect downsizing fleet before winter instead of expansion. Expect layoffs across the board.

This is a funny topic,

I heard a Transat employess say recently that if the company could find some cheap Ilyushin aircraft, they would probably go for it! They don't know what the heck they want!

I don't think theyd go for an Illushyn but it is true that they don't know what they want.
Feels like the plans for the fleet change once a month ...

I think the current plan is to get rid of 2 310s in the fall ... Well see :s
