Quite lucky they were able to find another pilot to land that big beast On another issue,, the overweight ? over-age pilot was problably milking the system and paying off his third wife when it happened. The young ones advance by the entitlement group having heart attacks it seems

The internet truly brings out the worst in people. A man died before his time, no doubt leaving grieving family/friends/workmates. This sad event was dealt with by the crew and volunteer medical personal on board in a totally professional manner resulting in a safe and uneventful landing.

I guess we don't have much choice having to listen to sensational and stupidly uninformed commentary from the talking head morons on TV, but we do have the choice to be thoughtful and measured when we post on an aviation web site. Lets not follow the example set by the that "professional" pilots rumour network across the pond where you can already see insensitive and stupid posts......

This is life, and to my knowledge not one person has got out of it alive. Death is just that, and at 300Lbs it seems the good Capt was past due, not "before his time."

And yes, the web does bring out the worst of the worst.

Yes. Won't do much good if he's in asystole ("flatline"). Emergency medical kits also carry epi and atropine but they are not that efficacious.

I couldn’t agree more. I rarely if at all wander over to that site as I find it full of” know-it-alls”. No matter what the situation/incident/accident/fatalities someone has had one much more difficult and it was due their superior skill/knowledge/experience/ability that saved the day and how could that other unfortunate person not grasp the obvious.

PS. Sincere condolences to that gentleman's family, relations, friends and UA co-workers. Very sad to hear and read about...

Does anyone know if, after the retirement age was raised, there was a change in the medicals? I mean, when you turn 40, you need a medical every 6 months, ECG every year...are there no more requirements if over 60?

And how do medicals work in the US?

But maybe it is just as discriminatory at 40
as it is at 60, or vice versa.

Class 1 Medicals are always 6 months in the US, regardless of age IIRC.

I'm my opinion, Aviation Medicals are a joke! They are necessary, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who can say they are too basic!
