Transat probably still hoping to attract more 737 type rated candidates.

What positions are available? Can a new-hire expect year round 737 or will it be 737/330 or 737/310?

It seems that recent hires are either straight 737 or dual 310/737 but things are dynamic......

Isn't it the 330 that will be the 'flex' fleet in the winter (along with the 737)?

«L’hiver, nous prévoyons exploiter neuf A330 de 350 sièges et six A310 de 250 sièges, et l’été, nous opèrerons 12 A330 et neuf A310», indique Jean-François Lemay. «Mais cela peut évoluer : nous avons conclu des ententes qui nous permettent de fonctionner sur le modèle d’une flotte «accordéon.»

There was a class early January and one starts Feb 3. 6 pilots in each, all were 310/737 dual spots. Not sure what the upcoming classes will be or how many are left to be hired.

Any further comments on the commuting situation?

That would seem a very easy commute as Westjet has 4 non-stops a day. Being on reserve would not be so easy though.

Does anybody know what is happening with the hiring? Is there a course starting in February? Is there a course in March? Is the hiring has come to a full stop?

There was a class which started yesterday. 8 people, 6 people on the A310/B737, 2 people on the A330/B737. Don't know how much more hiring there will be, but there will likely be a course per month for the next few months I imagine. Initially they said 30-40 new hires total. So far there have been 16.

Topper:

Are you sure about the 330 yo-yo's? I didn't see any new-hire positions for that in the last award.

I have a friend in the Feb 3 class, he told me there were 2 330 swingers.

Wow, good for them. It's surprising that more senior pilots did not bid for the 330/737.

You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

From what I can tell, they did. Interesting.
