aerocourse??
Thinking about taking the Inrat prep course with Aerocourse on Feb 14-17 in YWG. Here's the deal haven't taken an IFR groundschool, haven't even cracked a book for a while. Have the Aerocourse workbook. 2 weeks 2 blow the dust off get all tuned up, take the course, write the exam. done.
More time to prepare? Waste of money if your not thoroughly prepared? Take the course to figure out just how little I know?
Oh yeah and one other, anybody know where to get a medical without waiting 3 months in YWG??

Aerocourse will get you ready for the exam. Write the exam 1-2 days afterwards. Not a waste of money

It's better to break ground and head into the wind than to break wind and head into the ground.
Re: aerocourse??
Well if you're really desperate and he's still around just head to Thunder Bay and see Dr. Lower. He's really cheap (was $30 the last time I saw him 2 years ago) and is usually just walk in.
You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

I was also going to suggest Dr Lower in YQT if you are desperate. Its walk-ins only, I've never waited more that 15-20 minutes. And he is cheap.
As for aerocourse, I had some ifr knowledge from my time at Confed, but didnt do anything with it until 2 years later. Basically the time frame you are looking at, I spent a few hours a day going through questions in the workbook, looking up the references to things i didnt know, and then doing the tests again. I was getting about 70's on the tests just from doing that, then took aerocourse and got a 98 on the inrat 3 days later. Definately will get you ready.

Re: aerocourse??
I did the Aerocourse in CYYC in October. It was the best money I spent to get ready.
I have bought the competitor Books (waste of time), read, re read them three times, reviewed the latest AIM and the out of date Instrument Procedures Manual and was havign a hard time figuring it all out.
Took the course, poof three days letter my head was full, but I was ready. They recommend take the course, take a couple days off, do some studying and go write. I ended up taking a four week break, reviewed the ntoes and wrote it. Got 86%.
Highly recommended.
The stuff they teach you is on the exam, as opposed to were some of the stuff is totally extraneous.
Just my $0.02

Re: aerocourse??
Study to the point you think you know everything, do the Aerocourse, book your exam for the Monday or Tuesday after. Thats the best way to do it.
See Fogal, he's usually pretty quick, end of the month is always busy for him, but it should be easy to get to see him in the next week or so. You gotta leave a message then he calls you back.

Re: aerocourse??
You guys are wasting your money. Get the books, use them as an outline to guide you through the AIM and you'll have no problem passing. It just takes a bit of dedication. If you follow through the coursework questions, before you know it you'll have read the entire ACW and AIM, and voila, you'll know everything that is on the exam. Trust me, I did this method for all of the Transports exams, did quite well, and saved a lot of money.

If you have the extra green and not the time, go with the Aerocourse. Didn't study a minute, took the course, wrote on Monday and got high 80's.
Re: aerocourse??
Aerocourse is not cheap, but in the end is worth it. A bit of a plus no one has mentioned, it's often a good way to network a bit and perhaps meet some new people.
Re: aerocourse??
I took the aerocourse as well and I'll tell you... It took me 2 months to go over the various material needed. I have to work for a living and couldn't just cram for the exam. The best part about this course is that they will review everything from start to finish... I don't know about you, but the stuff I read 2 months back are distant memories. I also suggest to write the test no longer than 2-3 days after the seminar. A word of caution; different people run the seminars in different cities and depending on who runs the seminar in your area it may not be worth your money.
My two cents.

Re: aerocourse??
go and do it. not a waste of time. especially if you havent opened a book for a while. the thing is that you have to have a general knowledge of ifr before you go tke the coarse. and that you go do the written 2-3 days latter is not necessary. you can go 2 weeks later if you want. ok good luck!!
