Pretty neat stuff, eh.
The fella who taught me how to fly, flew one of these back in the war. He was an amazing individual. I never apppreciated till later what a unique experience this was as I got older. RIP BOB
Enjoy the video.

Nice vid Stearman. Slightly off topic……but everyone gets a hard-on for Spitfires and Chipmunks. What I’d really love to see is more Messerschmitt Bf-109’s out there. The Bf-109 was the tip of the sword for the Luftwaffe and was the favoured fighter plane for Germany’s top ace Erich Hartmann (credited with 352 kills) Just over 35 000 of these were produced an only about 10 are still airworthy with about half that actually seeing combat.
Cheers

I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...
Yeah 109s are pretty cool.
Here is a 109G4

excellent vid. they're sweet machines. i had the privilege of viewing ed russell's 109. his 109 is the only airworthy Bf-109E-4 with the world’s only original daimler-benz DB601engine. The thing fought in the battle of Britain and actually shot down a few spits.
ahhh…if only i could win a 150 million dollar law suit from walt disney.
cheers

....that very 109E-4 was proven to be one of the machines actually flown by Hans Joachim Marseille, "The Star of Africa". Also the first pilot to ever score 100 kills against the RAF... more interesting stuff on him here:

The last time I saw a ME109 fly was when I was flying for the French Flying Legends in the Munich Airshow in 1997 / 1998??
Anyhow I do remember waking up to the TV coverage of Princess Diana having been killed in that car wreck. what ever year that was.
Somewhere in my stuff I have pictures of that airplane as it was parked just down the row from us.
Neat machine, but I prefer the FW 190.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Clever to put the engine in upside down and lower the sight over the nose and get the exhaust down and away from the pilot.
Just an aside, but those multiple 'kills,' as cool as that may have been, were people like my dad, who survived getting shot down in France in a Hurricane. He went on to fight in the Battle of Britain. Many more were not so lucky and I would not be here either had that Nazi had a better shot.
Lots of Canadian kids didn't come home, fighting so that we have all this freedom that we take so much for granted.
Its kind of like the old buffalo rifle I have - neat weapon, but it helped wipe out the buffalo...we really are a stupid species.
Rant Switch...................OFF

"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."
