If it rains hard enough, yes.twin turban failure?
I guess no one remember the successful forced landing a friend of mine did a few years back in a 737 in New Orleans. No fatalities, and the aircraft is flying today with Southwest.

Hedley, you need to re-read the previous comment, seeing as it was a Pakistani plane, I believe it was a slightly off colour, way too early joke leaning towards pilot error.
Cheers,

Re: Pakistan Plane Crash - July 28/2010
I think speculation at this point indicates 'some' degree of human error on the part of both controller and pilot.
Historically, and I think it's fair to say, CFIT accidents reveal certain acts of omission on the part of the Liveware (Human Factors) involved in the manipulation of an aircraft during a circling approach which may place the aircraft beyond the maneuvering area for a particular runway, sometimes placing it over high terrain, and should any CFIT accident result, as is the case here, it is clearly the responsibility of the PIC. So how did this crew being familiar with Islamabad drive a perfectly servieable A321 (with EGPWS) into high ground?
No one should be Circling in a transport category airplane in the first place. But, if you do....
As most of you know, the circling procedure calls for a missed approach as soon as contact is lost with the airport environment, when that is the case and certainly with FMGCS and a ND, the Liveware knows through good SI when the aircraft position is beyond that maneuvering area, that a go-around must be executed. So, when an accident like this occurs the speculation becomes less challenging, regardless of what country or nationality may be involved.
My thoughts are with those who have needlessly lost a loved one as a result of this tragedy. My thoughts are also with the PIC in this accident who must be really pist with Pakistani ATC who refused to let him land off the ILS due to winds. It will be interesting to learn what's in their AIP as far as that goes.
