Has TC stopped publishing the Aviation Safety Letter?

Post by schleprock »

Does anyone know if Transport Canada has stopped producing the aviation safety letter? the last one on their website (http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/p ... u-5395.htm) is issue 2/2014 which was produced in July, but nothing since.

I haven't seen any announcements about the publication stopping. I've sent an email to TC asking, but thought someone here may know.

Thanks.

I was told just the other week by a TC inspector, that it is still being published, but available on the internet only. If I can get the link, I'll post it. Contact your local TC safety inspector for a link to the web page.

It's still around. I think they publish 4x a year, web only though... they still have a ton of good info!

(1) there are only 2 safety letters out for this year and it's the end of December. C'mon man! What do we pay our taxes for??

(2) the pdf download times quoted are for a 56k modem. What?? Does anyone actually use those things anymore? Who the hell has dialup internet these days?

(3) the ASL thing is only online now. I used to read this on the crapper, but can't do that anymore...

thanks guys, i do realize they went digital only some time ago, hence why i posted the link. But nonetheless, I did get a response from the ASL Editor indicating that TC has experienced some delays in 2014, hence there will only be a third and final ASL for 2014, which he kindly sent me in advance of the release. The pdf could not be posted as the file was too bigger than the 2MB limit of Avcanada.

He also indicated that he will be retiring in 2015, so there may be further delays depending on the speed on which they find his replacement.

I told them not to bother after the coffee cup walkaround episode. I get the cadors and watch asn avherald and others. Tc hasn't come up with anything usable in nearly 15 years. Some good people hamstrung by mediocre management

You would think that what with all the money they are saving not overseeing the industry and stuff, they would be able to bang together one heck of a magazine!

Except for the overuse of the S word, and the stupid and insulting SMS cartoons,, I actually liked it, and have kept the pdf copies, and still use them for reference.

The solution of course, and I am sure everyone will agee with me here, is to raise the medical examination fee to $155.00 from the current $55.

Voila... sorry for the delays... (and for the Blackfly cartoons... but they ended a while ago... I suppose they eventually crashed and went out of business...)

I'm suspicious. Is this really the letter guy or just the newest multi from Smith Falls?

I'm it Pop... this was my last issue as editor as well, I am retiring in March. As for what happens next, not sure, but trust me it has nothing to do with the $55!

The online versions of the ASL in both languages should be online next week, and the eBulletin should be issued following that.

I'm just kidding about a humorous/dramatic AvCanada thing.

Have a merry Christmas sir and thank you for the ASLs past and present.

To the ASL editor

Personally I have found the ASL a useful resource both personally, and as a CRM training aid for flight training. I wish to thank you for your service in the furtherance of aviation safety and wish you a happy retirement

Yes, it's a great resource, although sometimes I wonder if the people who really need to be reading it don't (i.e. the accidents waiting to happen).

I used to read 100% of them when they were mailed out. Since they went digital-only, I think i've read about 10% of them. I can't remember to go look for them.

I'll miss them if they go away completely after your retirement. Sorry to see them go!
