Westjet Unionization + Bomb threats = Connected?

Post by rocks25 »

I really can't help but speculate that the bomb hoaxes/threats against Westjet and the threat of unionization are connected. The amount of media attention and particularly WestJet's response really make me feel the company is trying to spin this into a crisis that will show how well the company can work together in the face of a risk...

Am I wrong?

I dont think you are wrong. (Sarcasm coming)It appears you really can not help yourself to refraim from making such a disgusting speculative slur on a company.

What is your basis for even suggesting that?

Bomb threats are serious, real or not. To suggest then that a company would spin it, unless you really have some solid basis for that is just so wrong.

Come on guys. Bomb threats is the new thing... it's not limited to Canadian operators. It's been going on like crazy for over a month now.

I'll third that. Plus, these threats only work against the bottom line of a company.

... just like WestJet execs have said about the threat of unionization.

Read this article about how delays and problems in the airline industry serve to bring the team together... thus reminding everyone that works for WestJet that they don't need a union to feel a sense of a job well done.

Tying this to the recent union drive even through innuendo is utterly baseless and serves no one's interests. Let the police arrest someone and report what the motivation was and then have at....

As far as I know the pilot group is unionized (in house association is still a union) so are you referring to other company groups - i have gone through labour disputes where there were bomb threats but always from a disgruntled pilot group not ever from a company - silly man

They have an in-house association but are not certified as a bargaining agent with the CIRB, therefore they are not a union. Only a certified union holds any kind of legal status and can undertake labour action in the pursuit of a fair contract in accordance with labour law. Until the Conservatives inevitably deny them that right of course.

An in-house association has no teeth at all and the company only talks to them out of courtesy, not because they are required to.

Still think it's coming from a disgruntled employee or disgruntled ex-employee. Why would they only be targeting Westjet flights?

Well who ever is pulling this stunt off, hopefully law enforcement will find them and prosecute said individual(s) to the fullest extent of the law, get a conviction and off to prison.
