how about this for a title, "Stephen J. Harper International? Petition launched to rename Calgary airport". Holy @#$! stop being such a sensationalist dickhead with these clickbait titles.

And now we're all supposed to chime in with our deep insights on politics right?
It's my fault though, I logged in.

I think it's funny that the petition AGAINST naming it after Harper has more signatures

You know what would be cool is if they named it McCall Field, in honour of Captain Fred McCall, a World War I flying ace and one of Calgary's pioneer aviators.

I second that.
Airports should be named after people prominent in aviation and not after politicians.
Winnipeg got it right!

He's a popular guy to bash, but he did the job for 10 years. Lot of responsibility, lot of stress, and nothing but losers most of whom couldn't hold a job at McDonald's for critics. Ironic.
And I'm referring to the nasty critics with their ridiculous allegations.
How many of the critics have run for office? volunteered to give back to their country? Founded and run a business or Non - Profit?
It's never the Critic that counts. There is an inverse relationship between the criticism and what little the critic has likely achieved in their miserable existance.
Think he sacrificed? Was a patriot for Canada? Did his best to guide the country?
I would bet good money very, very few -- like none -- could assume that job for a day, possibly an hour, without wetting their pants from the stress of the sheer responsibility.
my $0.02 on the Harper bashing as a whole, not on this site.

But yes that would be a much more suitable name than a living politician...........

So would we go to the Stephen Harper International Terminal to fly south?

Agreed. Come to think of it, it would be really nice to fly into the 'Joe Somebody, Local Aviation Pioneer' Airport all across the country...but then that probably doesnt fit with the 'cool' YVR/YYZ and so on branding that corporate marketing types have plastered all over airports...co-joe wrote:You know what would be cool is if they named it McCall Field, in honour of Captain Fred McCall, a World War I flying ace and one of Calgary's pioneer aviators.
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

COME ON BIZ!
Cowboy McCloskey, the big Albertan who commuted to Down East in his personal CF-104 THAT IS THE MAN OUR AIRPORT SHOULD BE NAMED AFTER!
"COWBOY MCCLOSKEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT"
All joking aside Harper stepped up, like him don't like him he led the Country and took the heat for years! Easy to criticize not so easy to do his job!
"HARPER INTERNATIONAL"
Sure no issue here!

If you think the Conservatives have run the country into the ground, you ain't seen nuthin' yet. But then again, you probably won't - the fiscal disaster will be for your kids and grandkids to deal with.
Harper has every right to have the airport named after him, and people can like or dislike the decision - that is also their right. But the hysteria of trying to blame every financial/political woe on one man is pathetic. I am no fan of Harper but the popularity of a politician is no measure of his quality. Something that the self-absorbed masses are about to learn, to their sorrow. But then this is the time we live in: style over substance, soundbites and selfies.
The ants are taking over from the grasshoppers, and that never ends well.
