"Frozen" paint job

Post by NunavutPA-12 » Sat Nov 07, 2015 1:57 pm

Coffee-time chatter: We're wondering what a paint job like this might cost. Anybody have a ball-park figure?

Don't forget some of your self-respect if you've got to fly it. You can't put a price on that.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

$50,000,000 give or take.
As for self respect, it's no more offensive masculinity wise then Robin's egg blue. Kids love it.

I think most, if not all, is covered by Disney. You might not like flying it, but it's just a paint job (and in this case interior), and the guests love it. It brings in the business, I'll take it.

I bet is pays for itself many times over in free marketing. As for flying it why does anyone care that it has frozen on it ? I think it's neat and better than flying something that says Ryan Air on the side.

Why bring masculinity into it KAG? Does your sense of dignity revolve around whether you are a man or a woman?

Kids love it when adults dress up in silly costumes, too. I assume therefore that if WestJet decided to make you wear Mickey-Mouse and Donald-Duck costumes outside the cockpit you would be into that as well.

I am just not a huge fan of Disney, and I find the paint job chaotic and juvenile. It's just my sense of aesthetics, and I apologize if my comment was taken as having questioned the self respect of the people that fly that aeroplane. That was not my intention.

I just personally prefer a nice standard livery. I will continue to make fun of this one because it amuses me to do so, but I will try harder not to insult the people who like it or have to fly it. I hold them in the same degree of professional regard as I do the rest of the aviation community. I just think the plane looks silly. I don't have to pretend to think it looks cool just because kids like it.

Interesting Meatservo ..... what does your dignity revolve around and what part of your self respect would be damaged by flying this aircraft then?

Chill out. I was trying to say something funny.

My dignity, to my discredit, has something to do with my appearance, as much as I sometimes wish it didn't. Some people would prefer to go to work dressed like "Grimace" or "Chuck E. Cheese" too. Not me. I prefer to wear a plain old long-sleeved shirt and a pair of pants and black shoes. It's kind of like that. , I just think a spartan paint job on an aeroplane that accentuates its streamlined appearance looks good. I think that a paint job that includes swirls, sparkles, and cartoon characters is juvenile and silly. I don't like how it looks and I prefer to fly aeroplanes that I like the look of. I am happy you like it. I am happy the little children like it.

The invoice was billed to a part of WestJet. But it is money well spent.

Not wishing to appear pedantic but I've got to ask if it is actually a "paint" job.
Wouldn't it be more likely to be a vinyl appliqué?

Some idiot with a marketing degree convinced an even bigger idiot with a marketing degree that wasting all that money would make people spend money here. Travellers spend where the seat is the cheapest, or most convenient, or where they get the points on their card. I guess WS is making money hand over fist so they get to decide where to waste their owner's money. It's all marketing garbage to me. Would have been just as cool in cgi on a tv commercial.

reminds me of the Canadian Airlines punishment plane when AC painted it pink.

Play nice boys and girls.

That aircraft was due to be painted and interior re-done anyway. Westjet had to eat that cost regardless. Disney picked up the tab for the difference plus some extra for the marketing. In the end Westjet ended up with a way cheaper than standard paint job.

I really don't' understand all the negativity. If you dont like the paint fine.................................but it certainly is worlds better than the "Carentee" paint job.
