Google Earth image, JAL over BC field
While reviewing on Google Earth the Boundary Bay, and Delta Airpark airports, I saw an "airport" symbol in between the two. I was pretty sure that there's no airport there. When I zoomed in, it appears that the satellite captured a departing JAL jet. N49 04' 24" W122 57' 54".

That happens. In my city google earth has an airport in the middle of a subdivision where there never has and never will be an airport.

you can see a waterbomber scooping in the west end of Gander Lake (CYQX) if you zoom in enough.

This thing's RH wing flickered over the top of my screen as I was quickly scrolling along the A27 trying to place some things I saw while touring there years ago. At full zoom, the image is pretty cool.

That's pretty cool, especially how you can see the camera takes first a blue, then green, then red photograph.
But something does not make sense: measuring the wingspan on google maps, it shows 927 feet. A 747-400 has a wingspan of 211'. If my math is correct, that means that the ratio of distance from the camera to the 747, to the distance from the 747 to the ground is 1:4.4. If the 747 is at 30,000', the camera is at 36,800'. This would make sense if the photograph was taken by another aircraft, but not a satellite.

I worked with a guy who did survey work who claimed he did a bunch of imaging for google earth. He did tend to stretch the truth though so I’m not sure if it was true.

The Google Maps imagery of Langley is ancient, pre-dating the construction of the new terminal building. The Google Earth and Apple Maps imagery is more recent and shows my plane parked on the east apron. In one well-timed update a while back I was taxiing to the runway 01 runup bay.
