Air service without an AOC

Post by marakii »

Trying to find the transport canada link to 702/703 air services that don't need an AOC.

Trying with no luck, if someone can guide that would be great.

Thanks

You're probably thinking of 604 operations. ie you own an aeroplane and you fly it for business and/or pleasure. I thought I'd heard grumblings that TC was directing everybody to get full 70-whatever OC's now? Maybe that was specific large corporate flight departments in specific instances.

There is an exception for FTUs and farmers applying agricultural product within 25nm from the center of their farm.

Basically an FTU can do sight-seeing and a farmer can spray his neighbour's fields with an Air Tractor in the similar way they could share a "ground tractor" :wink:

FTUs don't need an AOC but they do need an FTUOC.

I know a few companies that were operating under GFY rules which lead to FML crew culture.

Funny thing is that if a FTU has a AOC, be it 702 or 703, they cannot do sightseeing under the FTUOC.
So FTU having only 702 CANNOT do sightseeing and if 703 is held sightseeing is done under 703.

700.02 (1) No person shall operate an air transport service unless the person holds and complies with the provisions of an air operator certificate that authorizes the person to operate that service.

(4) A person who does not hold an air operator certificate may conduct aerial work involving the carriage of persons other than flight crew members on board a single-engined aircraft if

(a) the person holds a flight training unit operator certificate;

(b) the pilot-in-command is the holder of a valid flight instructor rating in the appropriate category of aircraft;

(c) the aircraft is operated in day VFR flight;

(d) there are no more than nine passengers on board; and

(e) the flight is conducted for the purpose of sightseeing operations.
