Qantas Looking for Canadian Pilots

Just got this email from Qantas from linkedin:

I will be holding Interviews in Vancouver between the 26th and 30th September.

Seems like Australia is importing foreign pilots.

I would urge all those to stand up with our Australian brothers against the practice of not importing foreign pilots to not apply for these positions. It is immoral to import pilots to do work when there are plenty of Australian pilots available to fill these positions.

We would hate to appear to be hypocrites wouldn't we.

Had a quick back and forth with their recruiter. They are looking for Dash 8 typed guys and gals. Interviews in YVR.

How do you actually apply? If you do so on their site you get a message about pre-screen failed because you don't have the Australian license.

HA!! Good to get a laugh to start the day off! HA! The original posters attempt to thwart a foreign invasion and stand in solidarity with our Australian Brothers(I don't fully disagree) was instantly and outright ignored and turned into a "where do I sign up!?". Thanks for the chuckle lads...keep it up!
And just so it appears I am actually contributing to this conversation, one can operate in Australia on a LVC for 90 days and the full CAA License can be had in a month if one were super keen and organized but it takes most 6-8 weeks(3 Commercial exams, MIFR training and ride). ut thats from many years ago too.

Anyone Australian want to chime in on the OP? To a certain extent, I don't disagree with his sentiment; is it a case, however, of lots of otherwise qualified 1800hr guys getting the shaft when the forriners show up, or is it 200hr wonders being displaced?

Is this the start of the worldwide pilot shortage that we've been hearing about for 20/30/40/50 years?

If there are plenty of Australian pilots available to fill those jobs why are they advertising in Canada?

Having flown with many Aussies in the Pit, I can't think of anything less appealing than going to work the industry there full-time, but to each their own.
