Sully - The Movie
I intended on staying away from this one. What could Eastwood and Hanks present that I already didn't know?
I ended up going with friends and wow, was I surprised. The realism was incredible. And the range of emotions of the incident really came through. I give it a big thumbs up!

Just saw it myself. Highly recommended; it is the most realistically presented aviation movie ever.

Re: Sully - The Movie
Was very impressed and I would recommend. The aircraft scenes were great and Tom Hanks did a great job. Nice views of New York City as well.
The movie did a very poor job of representing how the NTSB actually handled the accident, but it made for more conflict for a movie. i.e. the NTSB weren't trying to hide the fact that it took dozens of tries before the sim pilots were able to make it back to LaGuardia on the simulations but the movie makes it out that they were. But, after an accident there will be lots of questions, so even innocuous questions by investigators legitimately trying to find out what happened could be something that could seem to the crew that they are being blamed.

Re: Sully - The Movie
I saw the ads for the movie on the bus shelters in L.A. and thought I'd give it a miss until I saw the words "Directed by Clint Eastwood". From the reviews here sounds like I'll have to give it a go the next time I'm in N. America.

Posting from the theatre parking lot.
Definitely recommended!
Really satisfies the desire for better footage of the real landing.

@complexintentions there are some great torrents available...
This was a fantastic movie - not at all what I expected.

Re: Sully - The Movie
Eastwood admitted he needed a "villain " as this whole incident lasted under 5 min from T/O til AC ended in the river - enter NTSB. The agency wasn't consulted nor were any of its investigators and the lead investigator said publically their portrayal in this movie was completely inaccurate. Real names were used in the production with the exception of the NTSB, there are other inaccuracies as well. But WTF, some will enjoy and think it worth the admission, and fair enough. Not me, I will spend the money instead on a mass produced industrial cheap Chilean white and won't even go the "torrent " route. Just ain't interested enough.

I felt the same way as you, Old fella. I wasn't interested. That's the point of my post. I wasn't going to go, for many of the same reasons as you, but glad that I did.Old fella wrote:Eastwood admitted he needed a "villain " as this whole incident lasted under 5 min from T/O til AC ended in the river - enter NTSB. Oh well. Enjoy your choice.
Re: Sully - The Movie
I just saw it, and thought it was really well done. A non-aviation friend thought it was a bit bland, ie no real plot line, not really any suspense, ect..

Just watched it too. Really well done, spooky almost. The NTSB seemed to be villain-ized quite a bit. I guess every movie needs a "bad" guy, otherwise it would be an documentary.

Apart from a few nerdy moments the pilot in me enjoyed, I thought the movie was rather boring. Left the theatre thinking I'd take a drunk Denzel over Sully any day. Lord knows the layovers would be better!

I can't believe that someone would waste his money on buying a hosting service and write that kind of crap.
Sky's the limit I guess.
The movie is awesome, there are some people who can still find ways to complain without seeing it, personally I enjoyed the cinematic experience. I wish they wouldn't have used the NTSB to pimp the story, but I guess it is part of the game.
Anyway, I want to add that Sully has used his popularity to advocate for pilots since that water landing. He is not just humble but and great guy.

Why was nobody thanking Aaron Eckhart's mustache? That thing was clearly the hero of the day.
