Re: okotoks
That would be awesome. I fear it will never be an airport again. The rumour is they will be building more houses after they remove the runway.
I used to dream about buying a house that backed onto the runway. Now I am relieved I never did.

Re: okotoks
Well there's one less thing to do in Okotoks now that the airport is gone. I'm not sure what else that leaves to do there.

I have not tried but I guess I could drive out with my dog and his bitch and let them trespass on the former runway.
Tom's house of pizza is still good for lunch.
Fish the sheep River.
Stop for drinks and a snack on my way to Blue Rock campground.
There are probably lots of great things I missed. ~shrug~

Re: okotoks
I think Rimbey is still for sale
CFC7

Nice grass strip, I think original construction (1981?)plan was to pave, but switched to grass-so grass has a nice road base under it.
http://www.rimbeyreview.com/news/390236 ... obile=true
"The Rimbey airport is up for sale, but bids are not exactly pouring in from interested buyers.
As of Aug. 10, Rimbey’s CAO Lori Hillis said no bids had been received.
However, Gerald Ernst, one of four men who had wanted to purchase the airport initially said the group would submit a bid.
“We are submitting a tender,” he said.
Council made the decision to move toward the sale of the Rimbey Airport following an in-camera discussion at its regular council meeting, July 25. They have set a reserve bid on the property which has been assessed at $104,600...."
If its still for sale, maybe 125k would get you a nice strip.
Be a good hamburger stop, nice launch distance to mountain strips west.

Re: okotoks
Maybe progress?Airport Stakeholders
March 2017 Update
In recent months, Okotoks Air Ranch Airport (CFX2) management has been working closely with Transport Canada to demonstrate a more rigorous compliance with airport operations and public safety regulations. We are pleased to provide this update to you, the builder group, and to inform you that it is our intention to resume airport operations and provide you with information outlining how we plan to achieve this.
One visible step in our increased compliance is the addition of a perimeter security fence currently under construction to keep animals off the runway as well as prevent people from trespassing on airport land. In general, overall security measures will be increased to achieve the highest level of public aviation safety and functionality for airport operations.
An inspection was conducted March 1, 2017. We are pleased with our progress and once Transport Canada inspectors and airport management are satisfied that it is appropriate to have the airport operating certificate returned, we can set a specific date that aircraft movements will resume.

Airport should be open by April 30th or earlier. Will be nice hearing the GA planes again.
Cheers

Awesome!!
Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from the little things; knows not the livid loneliness of fear, nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear the sound of wings.

Re: okotoks
Very nice to read.
I must say, I had to go around due to a coyote once at Springbank. Never saw animals on the runway at Okatoks.
I should go for pizza and look for airplanes on the 30th.

Re: okotoks
I wonder if they'll waive the landing fees for the "grand opening".
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!
Re: okotoks
Landing fees? There's a way to discourage GA planes.
Good to see it back open though.

Re: okotoks
I went to a Dawgs baseball game Sunday. Could not go by the airport. Any airplanes yet?
Re: okotoks
I've seen helicopters in the area more than usual. Some small aircraft seeming to be in the pattern - but not landing.
But no, haven't seen any actual takeoffs or landings. Scanners been dead quiet. My boys are getting impatient - c'mon open up already
