Need info on working in the Carribbean?

Post by KAG »

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good, decent paying company
in the carribean that hires Canadian pilots. Preferrably flying king air or bigger.

Thanks.

I looked into that recently, most of the companies down there will hire Canadians but most of them fly dash 8's and want you to have a type rating or previous experience. As you can imagine I think they probably get their fair share of applicants so they can afford to be choosy. I you're still interested try Liat and Caribbean star. Let me know if it works out for you!

Whatsa matter KAG. Too may days freezin' your lilly white a$$ off in the great white north. Halifax isn't gonna cut it, they've had a more brutal winter than most of us. I'm with ya. You find a place where they are flying 200's in the warm spots, I'll come along and cojo for ya. 8)

Screw winter. bootyshake

Not many Beech's down here KAG. If you're looking for A/C of that size there are some dhc6's.

Actually come to think of it, there are a few 1900's, I guess that's a beech.

Not exactly the right timing for hiring at the moment.

From what I understand, an Eastern Caribbean passport is required for working at LIAT.

What about float-flying down there? Anyone know how hard it is to come by? What the requirements are? Some good companies to start out with?

Re Liat, yes you would most likely need to hold a EC passport.

Re Floats, surprisingly there a no real float operators down here. There are one or two in South Florida, and maybe the Bahamas, but none further down.

LIAT is not hiring, and will only take locals, Caribbean Star, is no longer taking Canadians on contract, I was the last DHC8 captain down there. No Beech operators, except for an American operator.

You can try SVGAir in St. Vincent, they have Islanders and AeroCommanders. They hire Canadians, and they are a good compnay, owned by a Canadian. I was based in St. Vincent with CStar and met a lot of the guys from SVGAir and they liked it there, and said it was a good company, I also met the owner, and he offered me a job over the winter, but I went back to JAZZ. Not much else going on down there.

Foggy, you sure you're not mixing up SVG with 'the other company'?

SVG doesn't have any expats at the moment, and haven't had any for some time.

The other one has 2 canucks, 2 kiwis, and an aussie.

Either way, I think I may have met you at Chewies one night....?

Also, regarding the Beech operators, what happenned to the 1900 operator in Turks? Skyking I think? I haven't been there in a long time, but heard they were still around.
