Sorry for the thread hijacking. That photo of the Dak in the O/P tells me that what remains of the original paint is from about 1968, the New Leaf Era, from the lightening bolt. I have Patrick's book in front of me with plenty of Dakota photos and different schemes but nothing on 942

Here's a link to an article about the recent restoration of the aircraft: http://airsoc.com/articles/view/id/5920 ... in-midwest

She's lovely, isnt she? A really beautiful shape and entirely practical. Gorgeous!
You would want that gear to come up if you lost one, I guess they didn't want to chance it for a ferry flight.

Thanks for the info Moose et al. Sorry to take so long getting back. We are still working on the paint scheme and greatly appreciate the history. We have journals with the aircraft but I’m not sure how far back. 48? Anyway still trying to figure out how far 492/668 made it outside Britain before the end of the war. We thought it went to the CBI, but now we have doubts.
What I do know is that we love the lightning bolt and Canadian scheme. If it was my decision we’d dress up what is already there and finish polishing it.
One post mentioned the gear down. That was the first flight. One prop had an over speed, so they powered back and came back around to land. Fixed it that morning and flew home to Terre Haute, Indiana where the plane will reside.
We have signed up to take 668 back to Europe in 2019 for Daks Over Normandy. So we hope to at the very least visit far Eastern Canada in May and June/July next summer.
And the plane was at last year, and will be at Oshkosh AirVenture this year if you want to visit us sooner.
