Was my favourite part!
Have had very similar experiences in airport shuttles.
Re: Livin the dream 3
What is that speed brake complaint they refer to?
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Using any kind of brake waste fuel. If you had planned properly you wouldn't need it.

Except when your whole descent gets screwed up by alt restrictions or headings because of traffic.....Jean-Pierre wrote:Using any kind of brake waste fuel. If you had planned properly you wouldn't need it.

It's a control surface. Use it when you need it, period.Jean-Pierre wrote:Using any kind of brake waste fuel. If you had planned properly you wouldn't need it.

Does that include the the ones that stop you from running off the end of the runway after you touchdown?Jean-Pierre wrote:Using any kind of brake waste fuel. If you had planned properly you wouldn't need it.

They are free once you touch down unless you need power to make the taxiway.JasonE wrote:Does that include the the ones that stop you from running off the end of the runway after you touchdown?Jean-Pierre wrote:Using any kind of brake waste fuel. If you had planned properly you wouldn't need it.
Re: Livin the dream 3
If you're at idle thrust how does a speed brake affect fuel consumption?
Re: Livin the dream 3
It doesn't. There is nothing more annoying sitting there when the boards should be out and they aren't. Far more annoying than using them when you don't really need them. Planning properly. Lol. Ok. Maybe if all you do is fly into Halifax.

Sometimes my descent planning is so bad that I consider sticking my head outside the window.

I'm with you. Descent planning is not my forte. Thank god for the speed brake.
I found this latest "living the dream" to be the best one so far. It was pretty funny. And accurate. Pretty much a documentary. Well done.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

The shuttle scene depicted many rides in Montreal... too funny! And... Keep those damn fingers off the screens! Point... don't touch!

In theory if you need your speed brakes now then there was a time where you could have used less power earlier on. Less power earlier means less fuel used.Dockjock wrote:If you're at idle thrust how does a speed brake affect fuel consumption?
Of course it's hard to plan for all that. Even a few knots of wind can throw off your plan.
In the king air I fly we joke about going props max (full fine) as the props of shame since you shouldn't need to do that if you plan it right. It's a tool to use when needed so as much as we joke with each other, you use what you need.
