Bede, I'm not familiar with the FAA's regs. Any discussion on whether this is to also try and reduce aircraft to aircraft relying of messages by ATC? Pretty much the only time I've spoken on guard is when a US controller asks if we can see if there is a flight they are trying to contact. I think that's a reasonable use of the frequency, but I wouldn't classify it as "emergency".

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the barnyard noises, guy who makes a really dumb PA on guard to get the police riled up, etc. It's getting pretty bad around the NY airspace.

What a sad state of affairs to have to remind people of the purpose of 121.5, I'm completely stunned by the immaturity and downright stupidity that must have been happening to require this. They should just start pulling licenses of the offenders, if they don't have the competency to operate a radio properly then they have no business flying an aircraft. Losers.

I certainly agree they tend to be losers. When you think about it, it's actually pairs of losers. Without the guard police they would go extinct pretty quickly though.

Can't say I've heard too many superfluous messages on guard. Sounds like a make work project at the FCC. Big brother is only getting bigger.
