Instructors and FTUs
I'm hearing many FTUs are having a hard time hiring new instructors as many of the graduates are going directly into companies.
One training director just told me this morning he's receiving calls from other FTUs to "rent" their instructors because they're so backed up on training. Himself as well is calling around to fish for instructors. Both the schools I've witness this situation had to delay the training of some integrated students because they couldn't maintain the regular training pace.

Heaven forbid they should actually try to attract more applicants by increasing pay. The free market breaks down when companies in competition collude with each other instead of competing for labour.
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.

Going to get worse.
I heard Four class 4's got picked up with 225ish hours by jazz from an Ottawa area school.
They were headed straight to the right seat.
Just what I was told, by a reliable source.

I don't believe that for a single second. 225 hours isn't even enough to use the IATRA exam and get a type rating.gwagen wrote:Going to get worse.

Those days, 225 TT are getting right seat at PC12 and C208...
I know Jazz has issues with recruiting, but they're still many people between 225 and 1500 that are still available!

I've no clue about any of that.FL-280 wrote:I don't believe that for a single second. 225 hours isn't even enough to use the IATRA exam and get a type rating.gwagen wrote:Going to get worse.

Just relaying what I heard from someone I'd trust to be telling the truth.
Point of the story, there is a serious instructor shortage, it's here it's going to get much worse. Something somewhere will have to happen to keep pilot supply equal to demand.
As for people with more experience than 225hrs still available, well if they are still available at this point there very well may be a reason why they haven't been hired.

Could it be they wanted more pay?
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Can you even get an instructor rating in 25 hours?

No.goingnowherefast wrote:Can you even get an instructor rating in 25 hours?
You need 30 hours dual after receiving a CPL, so the minimum would be 230 hours plus about 1.5 for the instructor rating flight test.

Re: Instructors and FTUs
I guess people now don't mind doing the 6 months on the ramp before going on a PC12. It's probably more fun and at the end, faster to get to their ultimate goal...
Add the fact that a rampie will probably make more bucks doing his things than a CFI...
