FlightAware experts
This was sent to me this morning by a friend. I tried to look it up (no idea what time this was), but I'm no FlightAware pro. Anybody have any ideas? Claims they were travelling way faster than jets...

Re: FlightAware experts
It's a meteor that has broken up into pieces most likely. Missiles do not fly that low in the atmosphere. It could be military jets in a very loose and odd formation, he said one of the objects was moving around though, so it's almost certainly pieces of a meteor.

Re: FlightAware experts
If I had to guess it looks like a formation of fighters.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business
Re: FlightAware experts
Not an odd formation, 4-ship wall. Basic tactical formation, or fighting wing, transit, fluid formation.

Re: FlightAware experts
Definitely fighters, but up to 8 of them as far as I can see. I thought there used to be a limit of 4 on how many ATC would accept in a single formation IFR clearance. What's the rule now Auxbaton?
Re: FlightAware experts
There is no rules on how many. As long as we stay withoj 1nm of lead and within 100' of altitude, we're good. I transited with a 10-ship once between Cold Lake and Thunder Bay. Weather was VMC throughout the flight though. I would keep it to a 4-ship if I was to encounter any weather, especially at destination.

Re: FlightAware experts
Yeah that's probably why I had 4 in my mind, most of the time I did it we either had crappy weather or couldn't guarantee good weather. Splitting 4 into 2 was pretty routine for an approach to minimums but 10 into 5 would be a real headache for everybody involved.
