Vision requirement for Cat 3 Medical
Hi all,
I always wanted to fly a fixed wing or helicopter for passion but never pursued it due to my eyes cannot meet the uncorrected requirement of the Cat 3 Medical. I'm not interested in getting the recreational license as it is very limited. I'm not interested to pursue flying as a career so I don't want to get lasik because of its complication.
I read on the forum that it is possible to get Cat 3 Medical if my eyes can be corrected to 20/30? Is this true?

This is the official examiners guide and form that gets filled out, but it doesn’t really give the specific answer to minimum standard on it.
Remember corrected doesn’t necessarily mean surgery it covers corrective lenses (contacts of glasses) as well

Thanks.
Is it safe to say this doesn't apply anymore?

https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/ ... 2-1412.htm(b) the applicant possesses a visual acuity without correction in each eye separately, not less than 6/60 (20/200) and the refractive error falls within the range of ± 5 diopters (equivalent spherical error);

Make an appointment to see an aviation medical examiner and find out exactly what your situation is and any options available.

Thanks. I would do that but just want to find out what is the current consensus so I won't waste anyone's time...

Your vision requirements from the document attached would likely apply. I was looking for that document when I replied this morning.
I second the advice, either go see an aviation medical examiner or call a transport office and get an official answer

Re: Vision requirement for Cat 3 Medical
When I applied for my cat1 I spoke with the secretary for the guy who reviews the initial medical that the local CAME signs off. I asked her specifically about this as my vision isn't fully stabilized and I worry that I may go over the uncorrected one day. She said as long as I can continue to hit the corrected vision to not worry.
