Wasaya Offering YOS in the North As Starting Pay?

Post by Rupert.Pupkin »

Can anyone confirm that Wasaya has just started a pay scheme that if you have been working in the north for example 10 years, you start at year 10 pay on their contract?

Yes. If you have the kind of experience they're looking for, they'll slot you in on the pay ladder as appropriate.

Apparently that was only offered until Dec 31.

Interesting approach though.

Don't confuse this with seniority. You would still be at the bottom of the seniority list.

Why would someone begrudge another pilot who was fortunate enough to be able to start at a higher pay scale?

Because they got stuck with peanuts. Doesn’t have to make sense, people will hold a grudge over anything. Especially in aviation.

I’ve never heard of this happening at a union company though. I chose non-union at that level specifically because I knew I could negotiate a higher wage and get a faster upgrade based on previous experience.

I believe this comes from ALPA and their long term goal of recognizing pilot experience for pay in order to not allow the companies to take advantage of shutting down and starting up all the time.

It's just for pay and vacation allotment. They still get the shittiest schedule and bid last for vacation, etc.

The AC regionals/JAzz used to have a similar agreement with AC. (LOU 18). An AC regional pilot could carry up to four years of service for pay and vacation purposes. Your seniority date started when you actually walked on to the mainline property.

And yes only a pilot could find a way to be jealous of someone with more experience making more money than them.

Don't get me even started on how badly they'll fight over priority levels when travelling on their passes. To someone outside the industry its like watching two meth addicts fighting over the last hit.

In Winnipeg this week someone burnt down a house over an alleged $10 debt and drinking was involved....probably a pilot crashpad.

That.

And what a good difference that would make in the industry.

Of course ALPA is responsible for this. Please ignore any world wide pilot shortage and the obvious fact that Canadian airlines are offering jobs to whomever will accept an interview (slight, only slight exageration). Supply and demand doesn't apply at Wasaya. From ALPA's teat all goodness flows.

Hmmm, could they apply it to days off. Good time up north, two weeks on, one month off.

I'm really starting to wonder if all that high altitude wingnut flying is effecting your ability to have clear and concise thoughts.

Yes finding out someone who started there after you, (who you probably trained and line indoc'd), makes significantly more money than you do, to do exactly the same job as you, is a real motivator for most people. lol

Why should it bother anyone - the company needs to stay in business to pay your cheque and obviously it didn't affect anyone since the company deemed that no internal upgrades, usually all about experience. The parachute is the one taking the chance because he is still junior and all is good until there are furloughs then he is the guy on the street and you are senior and have a job. Unless you are non union then all you can do is suck it up. :smt040

Jazz folk came to AC on PML 1.0 on a much higher salary with the top up and thus avoided the pathetic 4 year flat pay. Some had huge top ups. All people had to say was “good for them”. Does that make AC pilots much less petty than Northern pilots?

This is a bit funny since they tried to cut everyone’s pay by 5% last year this time. But now they can hire you at a higher rate. This company is all over the place.
Good luck to those who go for that rotten carrot!
