Hi,
Anybody install a Lynx 9000 transponder and using in Canada? Are you able to get good coverage for weather, NOTAMS, traffic, etc? Would you recommend it?
Considering this for a transponder upgrade, but want to get the active traffic for it also ( the '+' option ).

If you're in Southern Ontario you might get decent radar (wx) coverage and metars for US airports from FAA transmitters. Nav Canada has no plans to broadcast wx and radar observed traffic life the FAA is doing in the US. If you buy one, make sure its a 1090 Mhz so it will be compatible with Nav Canada's sat based system in the future (and presently in the Hudson Bay area).

That's interesting. No, the UAT system only applies below 18,000ft in the USA. Above that, or internationally, you need 1090ES. Since 1090ES is legal for ADS-B in the USA after 2020, it makes sense for Canadians to get that instead. Are there any others that support antenna diversity? I would hate the have to replace the transponder twice.

Installed the 9000 with active traffic and love it. The weather is adsb based so that only really works close to the border. I use a Siriusxm for weather, metars etc. However, it is one of the few if only ones that does both 1090ES as well as 978 so you are future proofed for both the US and Canada. Currently Garmin stuff doesn’t. The active traffic is great and shows up all the traffic flying around as long as they have a transponder on.
