Proposed AD for Cessna 172, 182, 206, 207, 210.
Cracks in the forward cabin doorpost could cost up to $3000 to repair.

It will only require repair if cracks are found, and I think I'd prefer to know about the cracks and have them repaired. Otherwise it will just add some time to the annual inspection.
I am wondering if doing it annually is perhaps overkill. It seems unlikely that if the plane is flying < 1000hrs per year that you'd suddenly end up with cracks if it has been ok for the past 40 years. Perhaps it should be something like once every 1000hrs or every 5 years whichever comes sooner.

Likewise. Wonder what changed with the N model that would make it more susceptible to structural issues than the M. Other than 10 extra HP I don't know if there's much difference between the two.

That makes me feel a bit better about the proposed spar inspection AD on my Cherokee.....sigh. Bottom line is, we want to know what we are flying is safe.

Early (pre-N) 172s and early (pre-E) 182s are not listed in the AD.
Presumably those early 172s/182s and 180/185s (that have a common fuselage with early 182s) have a different structure than the models included in the AD which has not led to cracks (yet).
Not overly expensive and I will be happy to know that the struts on the Cessna I fly are solidly attached to the fuselage, although it is another reason to look for a 185...
