First Air 737-200

Post by badmash »

Looking to fly a 737-200 out of Winnipeg and First Air looks like the only option , my question is , do they still operate the 737-200 on the Winnipeg-Churchill-Rankin Inlet route?

What are the other possibilities to fly a 732?

Thanks

First Air no longer operates 737-200s.

Canadian North still does out of Edmonton. Best bet is on flight 446 that operates Edmonton-Yellowknife and points further north.

That one belongs to the Alberta Aviation Museum; definitely does not fly.

No they didn't. ESSO Resources did. -17 engines, low gross weight of 117,000 lbs, CM 734 nav system, PDCS and auto brakes. Former Eldorodo 737-200.

Air North still has one 737-200, a gravel kitted combi.

It occasionally makes an appearance on the scheds during the winter months, but pretty rarely as all of the airports Air North takes 737s to on a regular scheduled service are paved and therefore the fleet of -500s can haul the same load at the same speed with less fuel, less noise and a nicer cabin. It does some charter work and some freight work as well, but overall it doesn't fly much in the winter. It's getting up there on cycles, long been paid off, and there's usually a newer model available too during that time of the year so no point in working the old girl too hard.

From May through September though the -200 moves to Dawson City where the runway is 5006' of gravel and flies daily (often twice daily) in full-passenger configuration between Dawson and Fairbanks, Alaska. Those flights are all Holland America charters though, and the flight is a part of their Yukon/Alaska land tour packages. Also during those months the -200 occasionally goes back to Whitehorse for an overnight hangar visit for A checks and such, and when it does it usually operates the YDA-YXY sched that evening and the YXY-YDA sched the next morning (both flights are usually an ATR-42), however it's usually maybe half a dozen times over the summer and the dates are often only chosen a week or two ahead.
