updates for cywv airport

Post by oldncold »

Well Wainwright Alberta a little off the beaten path, but modern conveniences , last fall after a long process cywv got its ifr published gnss approach to runway 31 its non lpv due the military base so close but much better than the no approach for ifr . good for the residents needing medi-vac and business looking for growth opportunities.

This spring the new runway lighting system is being installed to replace the old 1980 one.high quality led and aapi's. Apparently the old wiring had become dangerous for workers to touch. With much dilligence from the town airport mgr business people and director of towns public works and cooperation with the md a grant app was submitted to the province for small municipal airport air side improvement and approved . Winter halted completion of the instalation until spring thaw . .the next thing in the 5 year plan is to get the runway extended out to 4000 ft from the current 3000 ft to allow light biz jets to use the airport.

It was always fun flying medevac into YWV and then doing the ol' immediate right turn-out on departure from 31.

Interesting looking plate. Thanks for bringing it up.

haven't had to fly it yet but with those minimums...may as well still consider it a VFR airport unless its just a low cloud base with no precip

Those mins really aren't that bad and a whole lot better than VFR only. Especially for an approach with a turn at the FAF. YWV is a great airport and its about time they got an IFR approach. Some far busier airports in Alberta without the constraints of close restricted airspace have higher mins.
