Look at the date.
And if you're that young ... well ... google "the great recession".

Re: Reminder ... for the noobies
Babyboomers are retiring this time around. I'm predicting a recession with all the talk of tariffs and trade wars, but the retirements will lessen the impact.
Housing hasn't collapsed yet either....

Small chance you guys are freaking out over small cheese.
Yes, all of this is true, but we are still a ways away from doomsday. Mind you, between allowing foreign (at least EU type rated) pilots to come work in North America, as well as paying the pilots a lot more, to start competing with airline around the world, things need to change for sure. But it isn’t a problem that can’t be handled. We are losing a lot of good pilots to Asia, just for the money. These dudes are leaving their loved ones and chasing money. I’m sure if we paid em better, they would rather stay and enjoy the perks of the North American lifestyle, and just vacation to Asia and the Middle East, instead of moving there for the unforseeable future.

Not the only one wondering if a recession is around the corner.

Nothing to see here, so most people say:

I disagree. This matters. To us, too.

Can you explain to me what you mean by saying reminder for the noobies? I read the article and noted the date, but don't understand the situation

Re: Reminder ... for the noobies
The article claims a pilot shortage, and the article is dated 2007. So basically its always and up and down and not to rely on this "shortage"DriedPilot wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:07 am Can you explain to me what you mean by saying reminder for the noobies? And what blew up in 2008? The so-called "Great Recession".flyingcanuck wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:15 am ...the article is dated 2007. So basically its always and up and down and not to rely on this "shortage"
Of course, there were something resembling protections in place to try and prevent Wall Street from continuing on afterwards (Dodd-Frank Act), but that's been hobbled rather nicely. There but for the grace of God, and all that...

Newspaper reports about pilot shortage. Few months later lay offs at Air Canada.DriedPilot wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:07 am Can you explain to me what you mean by saying reminder for the noobies? I read the article and noted the date, but don't understand the situation
As soon as the shortags hits mainstream media, there is a good chance it is over....
